2014 NHL Playoffs, Take 2

Not proud, but definitely not ashamed. Seabrook is not a dirty player, the hit wasn't malicious but it was unfortunately timed. Seabs is known for having both feet on the ice and his stick on the ice when he lays into guys, and this was no exception. Just a case of two big bodies colliding at a very fast and violent rate. Backes knows better than anyone to keep his head up and the area he put himself in was not good to begin with.

 

I was not able to see the game live(thanks founders black party) but I saw the replay. While a hard hockey hit, it was in no way malicious. Seabs is generally a clean player. I think the hit was a little harder than normal. While harder than normal, he(Backes) asked for a taste of his own medicine. Game 1. He hit Johnny pretty hard. Was that a dirty hit? Possibly, possibly not. He "got away" with it. No call. No penalty. No warning from the league. Should Seabs be suspended 3 games....well that's debatable.

With all that being said, I stand by the leagues decision. Ultimately one would hope it makes other players think twice before a "questionable" hit.

In my hockey opinion, while it has no weight as I don't play the sport, work in the sport, or do anything other than be a fan since I could talk, the sport could be self policed. If the league wants to put a stop to BS hits, increase the penalties. First dirty hit, 10 games automatic suspension. No pay. Team loses roster spot. 2nd offense. 25 games. No pay. Team loses rooster spot. 3rd offense. You no longer can play for an NHL team. Make the sport self policed. Guys like Torres, Backes, Orpik would think twice about blasting someone when all the see is numbers. Much like in human nature, we need to think of others before ourselves. Hockey should be no exception.

I agree with all of your comments. Most importantly, Seabrook is as clean as they come. Was he a little out of control? Yeah but is impossible to pin down his exact intention at the moment considering these decisions happen in light speed on the ice. I don't think he intended the outcome or to get his elbow up like that. Scary when you see Backes trying to blink his way out of it . Actually what was annoying was the hawks chick on the other side of the glass screaming and slamming the glass at a clearly concussed backes.

Intro was great. Went to a Rangers / habs game last year in Montreal. Unbelievable experience (sans the habs goal in first 30 secs and shutout) and they have shortened versions of the intro during regular season. PK looking about as good as I have ever seen in this first round. Ridiculous assists!

@mkhartnett Sorry you got swept out of the first round brother, maybe next year. Now I have to turn my attention to the BOS-DET series, where it's hard to root for the Bruins but my Chicagoan blood requires me to. Here's hoping it's a long and physical series!

Quick is not his normal self at all. I'm actually pretty disappointed that they are playing so poorly. Thought it would be more of a series than what it has been. Oh well, @end_27 is not going to be happy packing a box soon. I on the other hand and happy to pack a box if the GUINS are out in round 1 !!!!

I haven't seen a Steel Reserve in a glass bottle in forever. My goodness that takes me back to being young. During the first few dates with an ex girlfriend of mine, I ask about being into craft beer, her response, "Yeah I like craft beer too!!! Love that 211 stuff in a can".
