I did a quick search of the SW message boards but couldn't find anything. I'll be in town for a few days in June and would like to know if you guys can help me with some suggestions.

Any good local beer bars and bottle shops? Food suggestions also welcome!

    Cheers!

I have long since moved away, but my Dad still lives there and he frequents the Hoppy Monk west of downtown and the specs liqour store near the sunland park mall. There is also Primos Craft on Mesa rd. I cant speak for Primos Craft. Hoppy Monk has a good selection of texas craft or that side of the state that really is lacking craft wise.

And you can just pop across the border into New Mexico and pick up stuff from their distro too.

Food suggestions? Chicos Tacos. Local institution. Gotta try it once

I believe Primo's has closed, unfortunately.

OP should definitely check out Hoppy Monk, not just for the beer but the food as well. Great atmosphere too. Spec's Sunland Park is probably best shot for wide selection to go, as has been mentioned. Other good food locations: Chico's Tacos (Central and Eastside), Charcoaler burgers (Westside), Sofie's (Mexican)(Westside).

Nice! Thanks for the suggestions guys. New Mexico is my next destination following ELP, so it looks like I'll get a good taste of the SW beer game. Hoppy Monk sounds perfect!

Hey, I sent you a PM with some EP advice. Chico's is totally a local institution, but....if you die after you eat it, that's totally on you. I swear you have to build up a tolerance it.

If you're going through NM, go to Toucan Market right off Locust St. by the University. They have some great stuff. Otherwise, hit me up!

Haha, yeah I'm traveling with a friend who is local to ELP. She gave me the same vibes about Chico's, so maybe my food priorities will change a little bit. Message forthcoming!
