Tucson and El Paso beer/store recommendations?

Will be heading out to El Paso next thursday to visit family and will be staying in Tucson for a night. I'm from San Diego and am looking for something i might not be able to get my hands on back home.

If anyone in EP is interested in any trades or wants me to bring over something in particular from any of the local SD breweries, I wouldn't be opposed. Will be in EP from Dec 27 to the New Years. Thanks for the help.

I'd say your best bet for EP would be Specs in Sunland Park, then just down the street is the Side Door Liquor Store which is New Mexico distribution. So you can get Stuff like La Cumbre Elevated IPA and stuff from Odell there which is awesome. Those are my two favorite spots for sure, I'm usually there every Saturday on my beer haul. And while you're on the westside hit up The Hoppy Monk, over 70 taps and a crap load of bottles, and amazing food to go with it. Cheers!

In Tucson Plaza Liquor is the best but there are also Total Wine and Bevmo's. In AZ you can find Bells, Odell, Destihl, Ska, Four Peaks, Lumberyard, Funkwerks, Marble, and I'm sure a few more you can't get in CA. Oh, bring some growlers, we don't have the stupid labeling laws like you have in California and the craft beer stores will fill up some goodies for you as well as some of the liquor stores have growler stations in any growler you bring.

I used to always hit up AJs Fine Foods in Tucson, but that was a few years ago.

There was a brewery called Nimbus, too. Good, not great.

Just stop at Dragoon brewing right off I-10 when in Tucson. Get a growler of two of their IPA's and you'll be a happy camper. Also if you bring some Alpine I have Zombie Dust for trade

I'll be in New Mexico/El Paso next week. Any where in the El Paso area do growler fills?

I absolutely agree with beerserks. Those are by far the best spots in El Paso. If you keep an eye out, I believe we'll be getting some Prairie bomb at the Liquor Company on Zaragoza this week.

Also, whats up beerserks? I didn't know there was another El Paso BA'er on here.

Sadly, not. As mentioned above your best chance for a good beer in town is Hoppy Monk.

Thanks, will try to stop there and Side Door. Triying to talk the gf into a drive up to ABQ to visit La Cumbre.

Thanks for all the sage advice everyone.

Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some bottles of Nelson, Duet, and Pure Hoppiness at the brewery on my way. If i do, I'll be sure to let you know.

Were you looking for a particular trade? I have some Abraxas and Abyss on hand, as well as anything from midnight sun and anchorage brewing since I'm in Alaska right now.

I have a question for all in the Tucson area.

I will be driving out from SoCal (LA/OC) area in mid Feb for a concert in Tucson. Would love to bring back some Bell's Hopslam, ODell's Myrcenary DIPA and IPA and any other good IPA's that I cant get back in California. Will Hopslam still be around in mid Feb? If so, how hard is it to get? Same with ODell's beer? What AZ beers (IPAs) should I bring back? If there is anything I can bring to Tucson with me please let me know.

    Cheers.

No I got Zombie Dust in a trade. I think Hopslam is being released earlier this year so it may be gone by the time you come. If you bring down some Alpine, Barrel Aged Alesmith, and a Societe Growler I can hook you up in a trade for the above mentioned plus some other goodies. Odell's is always on the shelf so you may want to make sure it's fresh before you buy it. But send me a message and we can try to set something up if you'd like.

What a helpful post! I've spent the holidays in El Paso and Ruidoso for years and never found La Cumbre or Odells. Side Door had both. It's a little expensive, since its all singles, but it was definitely worth it. I bought the last two Elevateds, so I hope they get more in for the other guy(and for me, before I leave). Thanks!

If Side Door is out of stock, Billy Crew's attached Package Store also has Elevated. The trick is to call ahead and put your order into either one during the early part of the week.
