Nice. It's funny - unlike many in eastern Washington, a little country goes a long way for me (and modern country, i.e. pop with cheesy fake southern accent, I stick with no longer than a drainpour), but I love country guitar.

Oh, I totally enabled CD. My friends Sara and Craus head over that way a few times a year, and I just give 'em a fistful of cash and ask them nicely to bring back beer. Preferably, Selkirk's. I'm reasonably certain I've got some bottles left, just gonna have to get to work on it! :flushed:

Don Rich was originally from Tacoma, and met Buck Owens when Buck lived up that way for a while. And, I 1,000% agree with your opinion of modern "country".

OK, I have to head over to a friends house, where we will be smoking some cheese. As my last NBS entry, I throw myself on the mercy of our hostess, and submit a beer that I've had a few times before, but am just now entering: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/34416/121557/?ba=beertunes. Since Fritz Maytag has trademarked the term "Steam Beer", I suggest we start calling the style "Washington Uncommon".

As an amends to UJ, I offer this: . Cheers all, til next week!

I thought it was pretty cool, too, especially that in one post he included both Strauss and Motorhead!

After spending all day staining my 75% completed deck remodel, I decided to try something bold.
Du Claw Cocoa Fuego (see what I did there?)

Smells like slightly burned chocolate, roasted malts, booze (only 7.5% too), and a little spice. Taste initially is good. Straight up roasted cocoa porter/stout flavor. Then shortly after, the heat comes in. I would say it is somewhat significant. Lips are tingling a little. Lights up the back of the throat. I like a lot of peppers for the flavor, but not the heat per se, so this is a little too much for me considering it's still a beer. Feeling some heartburn from the first qtr of glass. Wouldnt call it a drain pour, but honestly cant see myself finishing it. I would give it a 3. In fairness, I do think it is balanced well and lives up to the description and the style. Just not my cup of tea. I would recommend to someone looking to kick your stout up a notch. My Hungarian, Ghost pepper loving brother will get to enjoy the other.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass, vintage 2012.

Lifeless pour. Watery and a bit slapping, but comes with no head generation at all. Classic oud bruin color, deep mahogany brown. After the pour manages to actually create a tan collar which always sticks around. Not as lifeless looking as I expected.

Holy carp is this tart, and it smells like balsamic soft vinegar, and classic deep sour cherry. Lots of oxidation going on here, but some nice malt and acid background. Not horrifically smelling, that first pour had me a bit scarred, but now I am very curious to see how this has handled.

Boy this is an odd one in the palate. Big tartness, and vinegar acid, but with a light bodied soft feel. Classic sour cherry finish and some malted sweetness in the back. The soft acid and big vinegar is strong with this one. I have to take this slowly.

Quite a bit of oxidation but in a good way, not ruined, but not quite optimal. A very unique creation and probably a sour heads oud bruin fantasy, but there's more to life than being slammed by the obvious.

    ---

gonna see how well this pairs, I am a sucker for Oud Bruin and Flanders for simple soft acid pairing of meals. Looking for the nice earth as I snuck a piece of morel already... yeah this is going to be fun...

Okay, back with my last new beer of the day, something quite local. I'm cheating a little bit, as I posted a quick rating of this already, based on a sample of it I had at the brewery. Orlison is located a couple of miles from where I work, about 10 from where I live.

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20173/118483/?ba=woemad

In terms of quality, these days I think I'd put this brewery on a par with Selkirk Abbey and Iron Goat in terms of local, quality beers, though being lager brewers, many don't find them a terribly sexy brewery.

Started the day with no plans and when the wife said "Let's take a ride", I knew of a place I wanted the "drive" to go through...Healdsburg, where Bear Republic resides.
Beautiful day in NorCal and the drive was also beautiful. Last time I went up past Healdsburg was for a high school golf tournament, back in '95. And if you know this area, you know that it's all vineyards and hills...very pretty.
Anyhow, we circled back and were due to hit Bear Republic in time to catch the Giants game...bingo.
Stroll up to the bar and see they have something I've never seen or had...Mach 10, a very solid DIPA
    [IMG]
While not a kick you in the junk with hops type of DIPA, one that has the ABV well hidden and can easily sneak up on you. I love DIPA's, especially those that I A) have never seen or heard of and B) are very tasty and drinkable.
This was just what the Dr. ordered.

But I also saw this gem on the list...something that made my eyebrows raise in a "Well what do we have HERE?!" manner...Bear Republic's Rum Pirate Stout...
I've never heard of their Pirate Stout and have never had a Rum BA Stout, so: check, double check and triple check.

A very unique beer for me indeed. I really wanted a growler of this but feared any drop off in the time between purchase ond consumption, so opted against it.
Not sure if you'll ever see this unless you hit the brew pub, but if so, it's worth the tick, to say the least. DELICIOUS!

Jeez, where have I been?! Quite the flurry of activity on this fine Sunday!

My first (maybe only?) new beer of the day was Sante Fe's 25th Anniversary Saison. This was a solid quaff on this hot afternoon, but nothing mind-blowing. However, being a saison in canned format means I'll definitely revisit:

    NEW BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

Hey NBSers and nice debut @utopiajane! Satisfying day today, I spent 3 hours putting a trailer hitch on my wife's car. Glad to have that done so we can take the little guy on our bike rides.

Now I'm sitting in the Lititz Appalachian Brewing having a Bee Sting B-wine with a buddy. I'll add it later, but for now I'll just say I like it. It's sweet, plenty of toffee and honey with some heat and lingering pine bitterness.

    Cheers guys!

The good thing is that there's still all sorts of great music out there, it just might not be called 'Country' these days- it's usually lumped in with Folk, Americana, Alt-Country, etc. Stuff like this guy:

Anyway, I guess I finally checked out this thread too late. I did write about a new beer last night and posted it on WBAYDN, but it was at 11:21 pm, so technically that was still Saturday. It seems like y'all have a pretty cool vibe here, so maybe I'll just stick around and plan things a little better next time . Cheers, amigos!

When I think BA BW's Sucaba comes to mind and while this is nothing like that, it too is enjoyable in its own way. While not many are in the same company as Sucaban this is unique. If I didn't know, I'd call this an weakly BA TIPA...and not in a bad way.
The more I sip it the more I enjoy it (the other two posts in this thread could perhaps be the reason) but I'm liking this. Very sweet but not over the top. Good flavor, aroma and mouthfeel.

It's been raining like crazy all weekend, but the clouds finally parted in time to squeeze in a nice walk, fire up the grill, and open a new beer.

Today's selection is the seasonal Imperial IPA from Straight to Ale called Gorillanaut. Their main stay IPA is Monekynaut, and this is definitely it's big brother. Lots of hop punch. Quite tasty. An enjoyable additional to the steak, potatoes, zucchini, and green beans. Cheers!
