Agreed. I live 5 minutes from Portsmouth Brewery and would rather hit Black Birch, When Pigs Fly or WHYM any day.

Agreed. The only thing better than the food and taplist at the Black Birch is the service.
Sit at the bar if you can.

Make sure you hit up Gillies if you're out too late tonight. It's a Portsmouth landmark for great food and drunk shannigans.

Alright all, gotta let you know my favorite thing in Portsmouth right now. Gaslight has $2 pints of Stoneface IPA during their all-you-can-eat pizza buffet during the day (Coke products are $2.75. Which would you choose:wink:?) The keg that's on right now (may be kicked - who knows!) was right up there with any Vermont IPA from the big three. Seriously, the recipe is dialed in and it's friggin' fantastic. Get it!

the 7 Eleven? For real? I've been driving past that place every day commuting to and from work for like the past 5 years. How have I never heard of that? Now I feel like I need to stop in and check it out. Glad you had a good stay in the area!

I love their pizza buffet, and the beers are super cheap! Just wish I could drink them in the middle of a work day. haha

These aren't exactly the best comparisons. Of course Birch, Pig, etc will win out since it's a variety of beer from other breweries. People always loved PBrew through the years but now since they aren't an aggressively hop forward brewery its not hip anymore. Yet you all will do what you can to get your hands on KTG. Ports Brew still makes great beer and has pretty good food. Tough to truly hate on them.

lol I don't hate them at all. I just think there are better local places to grab a pint.... and let's be honest... if my examples didn't even serve beer they would still be far beyond Portsmouth Brewery in the food department.

We did a two week new England trip last summer through Vermont, Maine, and new Hampshire and went to roughly twenty breweries. Their beers were hands down our least favorite. The cask ale I had was literally undrinkable. I am not a hop or imperial stout junkie in any sense of the word so that was not the reason for our hate at all. Our hate was due to poor quality beer, food, and service.

I liked the saison printemps and the winter weizen, you may have a different experience but I liked those beers and when I opened the bottles at home they evaporated because they were so drinkable. We just want basic alcohol soaking food and again it was decent and the people who have served us have been friendly and on the ball. Not everyone hates portsmouth brewery.

Yea my experiences have always been good. We would spend a lot of time down there in the Summers when in York and having family at UNH. Now we live 5 minutes down the road. Agreed the food isn't world class, but it hasn't been poor fo rme yet. Loves the Saison Primatemps, Impy, Wit 2, bottle rocket, WinterWez, Ports Pale, Wheat Whine, White lightning. I guess I could go on, but I can't compare them to heady, hill, Lawsons, Fiddle, Trillium, Tree, NEBCO. Different style, diff type of brewery. For what its worth Another One is probably the only MBCO beer I think is even that great. Lunch is extremely run of the mill IMO. (I haven't had dinner)

Now the chicken 2 ways and pint of Substance I had at Black Birch last night..........
