Long time lurker, first time poster ...

Headed to Seattle with my wife for a weekend next month.

Hoping to find a few decent taverns to hit up while we're there. Would be great to find 3 or 4 within walking distance of each other on Friday night and then 3 or 4 others within walking distance for Saturday night.

What are we looking for? Safety first  ... then ... just someplace cool to hang out. Good tap list, maybe some food, maybe some entertainment ... but nothing in particular.

    Thoughts? Ideas?

And ... I love this board. My beer fridge has become the envy of all of my friends, mostly thanks to the info I've picked up here!!

This question is asked too much...sorry
Go to either the Fremont or Ballard neighborhood, both have many good breweries, good bars, good food all within walking distance

@t4h2c0 is correct --- this question is asked a lot and a simple search on this forum would provide the answer.

However, I'm feeling generous this afternoon and will also agree with @t4h2c0 about Fremont and Ballard. I'll give you more specific responses. In Fremont, hit Fremont Brewing (they don't have food), Brouwer's Cafe and Sixgill --- both have really good food and great taplists. All three are within easy walking distance of each other. The Red Door Ale House is also in the neighborhood but is a step down from the other three I mentioned.

In Ballard, hit Stoup Brewing and Reuben's Brews --- neither of which have food but will likely have food trucks parked out front. Then, hit Bastille for dinner (great food and only so-so taplist) and then across the street after dinner to Noble Fir for a great taplist. If you're looking for music, drop in at the Tractor Tavern --- local hipster/Americana music venue with at least one tap of really good craft beer --- I've had Union Jack and Lucille there on a number of occasions.

I don't know what "Safety first" means so I'm going to leave it alone.

Thanks for the response Buckeye, as I didn't mean to take up anyone's time with my "asked too much" question.

By the way, I did do a search before I posted. Under the search title "seattle taverns" there is very little current info posted. I had the feeling that this community would enjoy sharing their more beer-centric opinions about actual taverns (and not brewers or bottle shops) with someone somewhat unfamiliar with the Seattle scene; however, I guess I should just stick to places like yelp.com ... again, didn't mean to waste anyone's time.

Just as a heads up, unless Tavern is part of the name of the bar, I've never heard anyone use the term "tavern" around here. Look up Seattle beer bars or just Seattle bars on here, and I bet you would get some hits.

Well, it's just that we get this question once or twice a week, and the fundamentals don't change much (Fremont, Collins Pub, Beveridge Place Pub, Brouwers, etc). And using the word "tavern" probably threw folks off a bit, as every bar in the PNW has a craft beer presence. If you had used the term "visiting seattle", you would have gotten this: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/search/29844875/?q=visiting+seattle&t=post&o=date

If you scan through some of those threads, you should find what you're looking for. Enjoy your visit!

There is a specific alcohol license in WA, called a Tavern license. Can't serve spirits, but don't have to meet any food requirements either. 21+ only.

If you would have used the term "bars" in your search --- hardly anyone uses the term "tavern," you could have come across:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/seattle-beer-bars.179200/

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...d-vancouver-need-bar-shop-suggestions.183959/

And besides, I did answer your question with some details. And while "this community would enjoy sharing their more beer-centric opinions," we get this question fairly regularly. If we answered with the detail I provided above for every inquiry, it's all we'd do. It's a great beer city and there's a reason why lots of beer geeks seek out Seattle and why we get lots of inquiries. But if you'd prefer yelp.com to my recommendations, feel free.

Hope you have a great time. Cheers.

I distinctly remember learning when I moved to Seattle (20+ years ago) that a tavern is basically a bar that doesn't serve hard liquor (we just called everything a bar back in the Midwest). So while we may not use this term very often today, I think historically it has been used to distinguish a more beer-centric establishment from a bar that also serves spirits. "Ale house" is another one that was new to me when I first moved here, but that's probably because nobody ever drank ale back home at that time.

You'll fit right in at Linda's Tavern. Bring your tight pants.

    Moar Taverns -

    Uber Tavern (das boot)
    Sloop Tavern (SLOOP-er size it!)
Brave Horse Tavern (watch out for Ama-zombies)
    Tractor Tavern (muzak)
Northlake Tavern & Pizza (cheap Pabsts pitchers, lasagna pizza)
Eastlake Zoo Tavern (I know, WTF is Eastlake?)

Sam's Tavern will sell you one of these ridiculous inventions (thankful I don't consume meat) :

Couple Saloons for good measure (and to pad the BA search engine) :

Sully's Snowgoose Saloon (dog friendly )
2 Bit Saloon (ride your hog there)
Nickerson St Saloon (lots of that Gtown nectar)
Duck Island Saloon (right between a gun shop & Uber)
Cowgirl's Inc., American Saloon (probably don't bring your lady….)

Naw dude, that's right here in Seattle. Just a few blocks away from Dick's Wallingford, which will come in handy right around 1 a.m.

Definitely not - though the Spokane Blue Moon has returned to semi-regular operation.
