No. None that are like Dupont. Not here, probably not anywhere. That yeast is a bitch to use, most brewers don't use it because it stalls.

I like that someone suggested Fantome, which actually is nothing like Dupont, except that you won't find another one tastes like it either. Even Dany can't reproduce it.

While I haven't had Saison Dupont for quite some time, I recently had Lost Abbey's Carnevale on tap. From what I recall of Dupont, it had similar flavor profiles. Am I off base?

"That yeast is a bitch to use..." Yup, the Saison Dupont strain is fussy. I have a batch of Saison that I brewed with Wyeast 3724 (Dupont yeast strain); it is at day 8 of the fermentation and I have a heat belt on my fermenter to keep the temperature at 90 degrees F (the alleged preferred temperature for this yeast strain). It does make a very nice beer (complex flavors of esters and phenols) but "bitch to use" is indeed a good descriptor for this yeast strain (IMO).

    Cheers!

no idea as we never get that brewery here, and though I been out there 4 or 5 times in the last 15 years I never seen to try them...my loss I guess. maybe next time.

all dupont beer I had and I had the current list on their web site. I like them, many are hard to find in Florida.

was me, yes dupont is to me unique, so far. even compared to Glazen Toren's Saison d'Erpe Mere. one time I had it and it was close, but not quite. its changes allot year to year...not the dupont.

I always thought La Folie by New Belgium was pretty similar. Edit: Looks like the only make a special edition version of it now. There used to be a straight la Folie that reminded me a lot of Saison Dupont but I see they are classifying it as a different style too

Am I the only BA who doesn't like Dupont? Admittedly I've only had it a handful of times (just last week was the most recent), but every time I've had it, it's tasted (and smelled) skunked. Green bottles are not this beer's friend, IMHO.

Château de Beloeil is the namesake castle you're thinking of that's pictured on the bottle.

Logsdon seizoen bretta is absolutely stellar in my opinion. Maybe not a Dupont clone, but if you can't get Dupont, get this. As mentioned before Boulevard Tank 7 is damn good as well.

I've read (and it's too late for you to do this this batch, but for your notes) that it's best to ramp up from 70 to 90 over the first 10-12 days and leave it there for the last 6 or so.

I'm not in New Belgium's footprint so have had little contact with them, 5 words into your post I thought you were nuts!

Also by no means Dupont clones, but La Merle and Jack D'Or are two others that I think fall into the "if you can't get Dupont, this will do the trick"

Below is what was posted on an AHA forum:

What we have found here with 3724 is if you start and maintain the fermentation temp at 90oF, the fermentation will progress and complete without stalling. Anything short of that, temperature wise, will lead to a stuck and slow final fermentation.

Please let me know if you have other questions.
