Oak Ho? Sounds like a tree hugger with a devil-may-care approach to fraternization.
Or perhaps a beer geek where barrel aged beers are sold:wink:

Greetings NBSers! Been a while since I've been here but I've scored quite a few news beers and need to get them reviewed and posted. What better day than a lazy Sunday when its akin to walking into HELL outside!

This is from a local STL brewer, Perennial Artisan Ales, and is fantastic! My review and pic below.

It's a little PA lingo when you order a brew on tap, well with the Victory lineup any ways. Old Ho = Old Horizontal and Oak Ho = Barrel Aged Old Horizontal. I recommend the Oak Ho.

Decided to change things up by photographing in front of the big fish tank this blazing hot day here in Alabama.
    Two Oktoberfests in one Sunday.
    The first: Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier.
I am not rating this as it and I wear victims of green bottle eye-watering Euroskunk. I do wish we had the option to write a review without giving a rating as I am sure this could be a drinkable beer. Just not this particular bottle of it. When I asked the dear spouse how to palate cleanse he suggested drinking out of the fish tank as it would be bound to taste better.

But I am not one to give up so easily! (And my LBS comped me a free beer after I called them and told them "I love y'all to bits. Do NOT sell this stuff to anyone else without trying it!")
So failing other Oktoberfests being available they suggested Sam Adams would be a good place to judge from.
Muuuuuuch better. Bottle? Brown! Name? Pronounceable!

There's the review. I may be biased due to my earlier experience but this was sweet and easy.

Although I have no new beer to tell about (3 weeks strong) I really enjoy reading all of these posts every Sunday  I miss you all and will be back next Sunday as it's my final day in a month long bout of sobriety.
    Happy Sunday all

    Namaste!
Umm... Namaste is the greeting, and the beer I decided to begin with this afternoon. Still really really don't like the new reviewing system, though I'm sure everyone got the complaining about that out of their system last week, and people may just say I'm being crotchety, but too bad. Not letting it go yet! Weather has been amazing again this week: hot summer afternoons. Been teaching the puppy to swim and enjoy the water, and helping to build a new studio... fun.

The beer is... eh. An understated wit, almost closer to how I think of saisons, there's just not THAT much going on on any of the axes. They say it's got orange and peppercorn in it, but I didn't get any of either. When the lemongrass seems to be the most prominent component of your beer, it's not one that I'll be reaching for again, most likely. Cool label, though at least. The second wild and crazy beer-venture I've had from Dogfish Head in the last two days (I preferred the Positive Contact, personally...). I understand the derision directed at Dogfish Head for their... unconventional brews, and how they don't always pan out, but I do appreciate that they at least reach out and try something different. The beer that he's created over the years, I don't really drink it, but the fact that he's making it... I respect that. Or something. Anyway, namaste, y'all. I'll be back later if all goes according to plan. Scheme-hatchery!

(little personal disclosure here: I love the beat on this one. Great instrumental. And the hook is actually pretty catchy as well. But if you listen to the actual rhymes that Pastor Mason has committed to wax... oof.)

If you like ESB's- this is excellent. I am impressed trying this for the first time! Life is good drinking this and rocking out to my favorite Nirvana song-Breed.

Okies I am going to have to try that one. Southern Tier I either love or loathe and I am feeling harvesty. (Although when I want to watch the Princess Bride, pull the blankets around me, wear pajamas all day and do what I gotta do for emotional maintenance I am still reaching for stouts)

On a 10 day trip through Texas. Been here since Friday and have flown through a bunch of good local stuff. Picked this up at a specs and decided it was a good one for NBS.

Very interesting nose, and I'm not really sure what I'm smelling. Piney, resinous hops, slight citrus, but not very noticeable.
Good earthy, piney hop taste. Lots of resin taste with a nice warming feeling from the abv I'm guessing. Lingers heavily on the finish. Pretty earthy. I gave it a 3.85

My new beer today is my first homebrew!
    Final score 3.38
A- Poured into a snifter. A murky amber color with a massive white head. 3.5

S- Pine, some citrus, grapefruit rind, wet grass, some bready malts. Wet grass fades as it warms and carbonation dies down. 3.6

T- Pine, citrus, grapefruit, bready malts, some wet grass, carbonation being too high is hurting the taste. As it warms and carbonation dies down the taste improves. 3.4

M- Medium body, carbonation is over the top 3

O- Not bad for my first brew. Really wish it wasn't overcarbonated, I thought I use the amount of honey it said to prime it, but I guess I used too much. Excited to keep try with brewing my own beer! 3.25

I did try a small amount before bottling and I actually enjoyed the taste more. I guess I need to be more carefully with priming and go a little bit under next time.

Well winding down the evening, and discovering I got a style in my hands I am usually not the biggest fan of... but no problemo... Been really digging the beers from this brewery that I've gotten:

Steel Toe Brewing - Provider Ale (American Blonde Ale)

    by imbibehour, on Flickr

Review here or just read below: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26565/73417/?ba=smakawhat

    ------------

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A nice fluffy and bleach white head. Barely makes about three fingers tall, but seems to slow sink into a soapy retention puck. Body is a golden light brass yellow, slightly hazy a bit, with some fine carbonation.

The nose provides a little mellow bread, but not much else. Non existent or very subuded hop aroma. A little bit of pastry like sweetness slightly, but otherwise kind of basic if fine. Not much else to say here or going on.

For an otherwise boring start, things improve a bit. A good chewy body of wheat denisty with some surprisng fruit tones in the mid palate. Faint juiced lemon and mushy orange flavor a bit. Finishes quite clean with a good chewy coating to match. Has some creamy tones, almost in a sort of Blue Moon oats way perhaps, but with a much less sweeter finish.

Overall while not a fav style, and one that I seem to randomly fall into from time to time and don't seek out, this one is a decent if not one of the better American blonde ales I've had.

    Rating 78 out of 100

    ------------

    Cheers!

    Greetings from Eastern Washington.

In case you didn't catch it, College Football officially started yesterday in Cheney WA. with a big win for the EWU Eagles over Sam Houston State. Sure it's FCS or D-2 or whatever they call it, but it was very good football, and the season is upon us.

Today it's Samuel Adams Rebel IPA. Not really a new beer for me, as I've had it on several occasions this summer, first in Las Vegas back in June. First rating/review however, so it rates a mention in NBS. I'm pretty sure old Sam never brewed this stuff in his New England home.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/95386/?ba=RJLarse

A good IPA not great. If they really used 5 hop varieties they might scale back? Too many varieties just gives you a 'generic' bitterness. But not bad and reasonably priced. As I said, I've had a few of these, and will probably have some more.

Dog days of summer here, with sun and clouds, even a distant rumble of thunder.

    Happy Trails!

Greetings NBS on a nice, crisp "fall-like" New England evening here in Rhody. Just went to dinner with the parents and had some killer coal-fired brick oven pizza, washed down with a couple Lagunitas Sucks. Suffice to say, neither the pizza nor the beer sucked. It was a good weekend overall, minus the hectic hour or two I spent in IKEA this afternoon..

Now I'm home, preparing for the week ahead with a great new beer from Troegs - Hop Knife Harvest Ale. The freshness is clear here, and key to this beer. Awesome nose with lots of citrus and some pine as well, but overall this is fantastic:

Been a weekend full of solid IPAs, with some Sculpin Friday evening and MBC's "Another One" last night. This one does not disappoint!

Cheers all and have a great week!

Just under 3 tablespoons of honey in 1/2 a cup of water. It was a one gallon brew.
