So I'm visiting my son who is a new freshman at the Univ of Nebraska and wanted to make sure I have my ducks in a row for beer activities. Checking the past threads, it seems the following would be the "must visits" within Lincoln ... anything I missed? anything I should skip? I definitely have a preference of visiting breweries over beer bars. Thank you in advance!

    BREWERIES
    1) Zipline
    2100 Magnum Circle #1, Lincoln, NE 68522

    2) Lazlo’s
    210 N 7th St., Lincoln, NE 68508

    3) Ploughshare
    1630 P St., Lincoln, NE 68508

    4) Blue Blood
    500 W South St., Lincoln NE 68522

    5) Nebraska Brewing in Papillion (not in Lincoln but sounds like worth the drive)

    BEER BARS
    1) Yia Yia’s
    1423 O St., Lincoln, NE 68505

    STORES
    1) N Street Drive-In
    1801 O St., Lincoln, NE

Just got back from Lincoln last week on a business trip.

I can comment on the following:

N Street - definitely hit this place up if you're looking for some bottles to drink or take home. They have a great selection and good prices.

Lazlo's - The food is decent and it's associated with Empyrian brewing so you can try their beers. I did a flight of them all. None really wowed me, but some were decent.

Zipline - didn't make it here due to their hours. Only open Wed-Sat so plan accordingly. Have had their Copper Alt thought and it's quite good.

    I'll add another option:

Longwell's - They have 76 different beers on tap, so they're bound to have something you've never had.

I would absolutely not go to Blue Blood. If you make the drive to the Omaha area for NBC I would probably hit the brewery taproom instead of the brewpub and I would stop at Crescent Moon/Beertopia as well.

Also, Ploughshare currently only has guest taps and none of their own beers until Mid-October.

Other options include Infusion Brewing and Benson Brewery in Omaha.

I'd skip Yia Yias and Blue Blood and just make the drive to NBC, and as mentioned, skip the brewpub and go to the tap house. I like Jakes in Lincoln for beer bars.

Thanks for the heads-up on Ploughshare ... so it sounds like the only two "worthy" breweries in Lincoln itself are Lazlo's/Empyrian and Zipline ... will try to get to those Omaha area breweries as you suggested. Thank you!

Longwell's has a lot of taps... lot of crap but, on my visit, maybe 5-10 that are worth a damn. If it is close to you then go. Mellow Mushroom across the street is pricy and sucks for beer, food, and service.

For stores I would also suggest you check out Moran's at 3400 'A' Street. When you do just make sure you go into the "cave" behind the cooler. I've found a number of tasty treats in there.

how long are you going to be in town? lincoln beer week starts this sunday, you can see some events here:
    http://lnkbeerweek.com/

will def second the reccs for jakes & yia yia's for beer bars, zipline for a taproom & moran's for the best beer store.

will also add that dempseys burger pub, while a bit hit & miss, sometimes has very nice tap offerings (altho only about 10 options) and awesome burgers.

If you can only hit one store, go to Moran's instead of N Street. While the physical store is small, Moran's has a similar if not better selection and you can buy lots of beers as singles including all the local beers.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to skip Yia Yia's. It's the best beer bar in the city and has great pizza. I haven't been to Lincoln for a couple of years, but I still crave the Francois slice.

Also, if your kid continues to go here, put Ploughshare on the list in a few weeks. The food is killer, and I have had many of the beers made by both the owner and brewer. They will make some seriously good beer.

Ploughshare just got the final parts to their brewing system and are putting the plumbing in order as we speak.
