Paulaner's Wies'n is the only other one I've seen. I think Lowenbrau used to send theirs, but I've never seen it in my area.

Have you seen it this year? I haven't, unfortunately. And the new "limited release" from Hacker-Pschorr is supposed to be a Wies'n, but I haven't seen that anywhere in my area either.
Pretty sure it's not imported to the U.S. at all anymore since AB-InBev took over import/export.

Another I've seen in the past, but haven't in a few years, is Köstritzer's Fest beer -- it was terrific, of course -- and now it's non-existent on this side of the Atlantic.

As to the HB Wies'n, the six pack I had this year was as good as ever. No off characters or strange flavors at all.

It's year-round in the "Best of Munich" packs now. Not sure if they're selling singles or the big cans now, though.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the new H-P limited bottles, too.

Haven't seen those in over a year either. Probably doesn't hurt you that Paulaner USA is in Colorado.

It will not be easy for you to find but Victory makes a very, very good Pale Oktoberfest that they call Zeltbier.

    Cheers!

The only Paulaner Wies'n I've seen was from last year.

I found a couple of Festbiers the last time I was at my local picking up more H-P Wies'n (there's been plenty of it here in the Twin Cities). Schwaben Brau's Volksfestbier and Dinkel-Acker Märzen. Unfortunately, I didn't pick up the Dinkel-Acker Märzen the first time I saw it and it was sold out the next time I stopped in. I thought the Schwaben brau was actually a pretty nice Festbier.

    Bleh.
So answer the question on the color of the new H-P Limited Edition, is it darker (as some pictures here in the German forum {beer purchased in-country} show) or more along the lines of a Weihenstephan or HB Wies'n?

Pale--more along the lines of the Weihenstephaner or HB.

IIRC, the label even mentions that it is pale. I guess that's a good excuse to have another bottle tonight to double-check.

Just wondered because -N8 posted this image back a couple pages and that beer looks traditional amber Märzen... to me anyway.

But this was bought in Germany, so the bottle may be similar, but the beer looks more like what we get in the 12 ounce bottles.

Notice that the label on that bottle says Oktoberfest Märzen.

The Wies'n/Fest Bier label looks like this: [IMG]

Yeah, but don't forget that Märzen is a strength designation these days -- even the Wies'n beers are considered Märzen. That's why I steal H-P's (maybe Paulaner's too) marketing lingo from their label where it designates Traditional Amber Märzen.

Forgive me if I'm repeating something that's already been stated(I haven't read all 40 pages of the thread.) I've had bottles of H-P's Oktoberfest Maerzen this year and it's just as in N8's pic, fairly dark. I've also had their "Oktoberfestbier" from a local bar here this year and that one was just as pale as Paulaner's or Hofbrau's or Augustiner's pale oktoberfests. I would assume this pale version is the same as the "limited edition" sold in the US.

It's also what's served at the Oktoberfest -- maybe even at H-P halls around that time.

Reminder German Friends! Available starting today, Schlenkerla's Urbock. Every year I'd order a case of this and then savor it until the Christmas Markets started, then I'd order a case of the Eiche Dopplebock to last through New Year's.

    Mmmmmm, Germany.......

Last year, Zur Sonne 26th. For some reason, I went on the 27th!

Höhn does a Bock? Last year, by the 25th, the only thing they had was their Görchla.

Yep, I'll be having one tonight!

Not 100% sure but I assume it's made year-round for the export market, or at least the US market, but in Germany it's strictly seasonal.

Great, I believe I saw the Marzen at my local the other day. But both labels are yellow so I'll have to check. Either way, I'm buying some combination of the Helles, Marzen, and Urbock this weekend (maybe all three!). Bought the Helles last week....heavenly.
