A little 'bar napkin math' tells me that with 80 people in line, taking 2 hours, that's 1.5 minutes/person. Multiply that by 4 registers, and that means it took 6 minutes for each person to complete their transaction. For a pretty simple transaction (there were a number of different available bottles, but not that much to pick from), that's ridiculous. Any guess what the hold up was?

Also, thank you again so much for standing in that line. I know it was primarily for @jdhowe's benefit and I just piggy-backed, but my appreciation will not go unrewarded.

 

It was done out of the back of the brewery so they could escape the 192 oz per person rule that bottle shops need to follow. There was only one register and it was run by an iPad and the square (I think it's called) to swipe credit cards. There were also 11 different beers you could choose and they had to grab them as you ordered as no one knew exactly which bottles people wanted and some had no limits. While it was slowish (10x faster than HF), I thought it went really really well. Al paid for some space heaters as well as breakfast pizzas for everyone. Great release IMO.

 

Yeah, what Nick said. It was a great release, just slow moving. Once you got around the corner it seemed to move a lot faster for whatever reason.

 

People huddled by the heaters and didn't move until they were near the door. Created a huge bottleneck near the front.

 

That makes a lot more sense.... 1.5 minutes/person is a great check time for a multiple-choice release, especially using square on an iPad; total 180, I'm now impressed it went so well. Also very cool that he had the heaters and bought everyone breakfast. I knew I liked that place for a reason

 

That makes sense. I'm pretty sure it actually got colder as the morning went on. When I first arrived I thought it wasn't too bad (6:40 or so)... it got cold fast.

 

I see what y'all are drinking on untappd, very jealous. But I am sitting here drinking an Enjoy By in shorts

 

Jealous of all of you... the kids just got picked up to go to a birthday party (for a 1 year old) with their uncle, so I might have to crack open a beer at this point.

 

Well this was fun. Assuming I make it back alive, a few of you will be sharing in the haul.

 

Wait a minute', if theres a release at a place called "Pizza Boy" and you take your kids with you and get them pizza while you're there, isn't that a win -win for everyone and a nomination for Father of the Year? Thats what I'd do.

 

Unfortunately I'm drinking none of that

Might open the sunny side up bomber I bought myself as a consolation prize though (with #properglassware !!!)

 

Sure, why not ... except that Pizza Boy is nearly 2 hours from me. There are a few pizza joints more close-by, that also don't require a 5am arrival to get lunch...
