The Amott brothers were killing it in the early days!

I'd like to be as wordy as a lot of you guys but it's just not in me.
I saw this on the shelf at my Whole Foods yesterday (or the tag at least) and it was on-sale but the shelf was empty.
Came back this morning and they had it in stock, so figured I'd roll the dice
    [IMG]
I love the smell (nice a fresh, crisp hoppiness) and the look (a nice light golden hue) and while the taste itself is very good, I wouldn't call it "Delicious".
The 7.7% seem to be hidden well and I could easily kill three of them without noticing, but I was really hoping for something danky...think Born Yesterday.
I have zero regrets about the $9 sixer but I won't be seeking it out again. A very good beer, just not as billed...IMHO.

And yes, I remember now that it's spelled Kam, not Cam, as I've done several times today!:flushed:

Looks like I am a little late posting this week, already on the third page :grimacing:....brunch and bottling beer took a lot of time today. Can't wait until next weeks thread! Now time for this week's new beer, Rum Barrel Aged Pumking, awesome beer for my first new beer of the day since the bar I went to brunch kicked the Burley Oak keg just a few minutes before we got there.

    4.25/5 rDev +4.2%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

22 oz bottle poured into a teku

A- Clear orange with a small white head that disappears quickly.

S- Really good, pumpkin pie with graham cracker crust, vanilla, nutmeg, some rum.

T- Not as big or balanced as the nose, spiced rum, pumpkin pie, vanilla, oaky/earthy finish, kind of boozy, but in a good way.

M- Smooth, medium body, a little hot.

O- A fun twist on Pumking, rum barrel works out really nicely. Nose is the best part of this beer. $16 a bottle seems a little high, but I will probably buy another bottle to share with friends.

    Lucky you! Nice find.

And I'll don my fire-******ant pyjamas and assert that the barleywine is better than the stout. More balanced, more complementary, more good.

They must have bottled this a few different times, because I remember this being around throughout the year. I was on a bit of a spree and remembered it was rated pretty highly (and limited), so I checked out the date and was surprised this one was only a month old. Maybe @ClownShoesDreams could respond onto the availability of this brew.

Saved this big beer in a big bottle for last.

p.s. I got a Ride the Lion that I'm looking forward.

You sir, Deserve a Cigar! I prefer the Barley Wine compared to the regular Stout. Plus, I don't care about the variants as long as I can have the BW.

It's halftime, and I'm coming to the end of a busy weekend. Yesterday was my dad's 79th birthday party/get together, so we were up at his place along with my brother's group and sisters group. My sis also brought a case of Straub Legacy Sampler (1872, doppelbock, helles, IPL) which I had her pick up for me not too long ago. It turned out to be too popular among the attendees, and I had to put the kibosh on digging into the second 12-pack; we could have crushed that case easily, but I do have plans for some of those bottles.

Today we got home, got a new animal habitat ready, and brought home our newly adopted pair of guinea pigs. They are very adorable, and just may be doing some modeling for WBAYDN shots one of these days, but right now they are still kind of shy and getting used to their new digs.

I was enjoying some Yards Brawlers during the first game, but now it's time to step it up a touch-

I'm really enjoying this. I've mentioned it before, but we really could use more traditional (i.e. not 'doppel') bocks on the shelves, and this really does fit the bill. It's got a very pleasing toasty, melanoidin-rich malt character, finishes dry aided by a generous dose of hop bitterness, and isn't overly heavy or syrupy. Very pleasant to drink, with no off flavors or cloying qualities- it's straightforwardness is its main asset. A- (4.25).

Oh- it's cheap, too . What's not to love?

Up next from Shrouds box of Doom was a very tasty Winter IPA from one of my favorite East Coast (or anywhere, really) breweries. I used to stash cases of this breweries beer in my rig when I was an OTR driver. At the time, you couldn't find their brews outside of a 25-30 mile radius of Harrisburg. I did the tour at the original brewery a couple of times, and the brothers were both fun and friendly guys. I'd love if they were to expand into WA. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/694/127867/

Really nice DIPA (TIPA ) - relatively lean body with big hop bitterness...

Watching final divisional game... Denver doesn't look interested in winning. Luck does. Peyton and his receivers look shaky. Is this a continuation of the "passing of the torch" ceremony that began when Luck replaced Manning in Indy? Would be an interesting, but ultimately meaningless, upset (--> I doubt anyone's getting past NE in the AFC). I like Manning and Luck, but I'm not a fan of the teams. I want that Seattle/New England Superbowl... to end in a Seattle win...

    Cheers, NBS...

Oh damn, who knows when that might be. Tax season is going to be a bitch for me this year, but when it's done, I might stop by Bawlmore for a night or two...

This new beer Sunday brings me to a crossroad of sort as it becomes my first new beer Drain pour Sunday. I visited my local brewery yesterday and they had 2 new beers that were to my liking or so I thought. The first which I opened yesterday was there Imperial Red IPA which to my taste was a better than average beer. I saved their Left Handed Flanders BA Stout for today. I was expecting a great strong BA Stout to say the least. This Stout was aged in some sort of wine barrel, maybe a red to say the least. The taste was bitter and sour to say the least, maybe it's the left handed thing. I'm right handed so maybe I don't understand. I even asked my girlfriend to taste this who is not a beer drinker and her comment was well maybe we could use it in a stew or something. Well to end it all I broke out a Pliny I had in the fridge and have saved the day. The best to all. I'm looking forward to next Sunday to say the least.

Unless there's something new on tap that I bump into later, this is my final NBS entry for the day. Keep your eyes open in 2 weeks, that's the "official" NBS BIF #1 bottle share, and I suspect there will be much discussion. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29377/103875/

Let's class this joint up a bit, shall we?

I'm not sure whether to be angry over our MD beer getting overt attention or happy that a MD beer will finally have some trade value. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is probably something you PNW'ers go through every day. :grinning:
