Good call, a friend recommend Gold to me a while ago, and it's now on the top of my summer drinking list (although it's good year round). So easy, clean and more refreshing than most anything I've had.

Moral of the story: drink Dortmunder Gold

You could, but it would be disingenuous as I've never had a bier brut! Its now on my radar though.

What Im wondering is what more could even be done? I mean craft brewers are pushing things to extremes these days. Im interested to see if more sessionable "ordinary" beer styles will come back into fashion in the future. When you think about it if you had to sacrifice one or the other I feel like alot of people would prefer to keep the more common styles when it comes down to it.

    I really like:
    California Common
    ESB's
    Kolsch
    Belgian Dark Ales

I drink IPAs & DIPAs but when they get to 10%+ ABV it starts to get to be too much.

I drink under-appreciated styles most often; because
    1. I like them
    2. They generally aren't 10% and 320 calories.
    3. They are usually cheaper.
I drink things like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and local stouts/lagers(depending on the season) most often; I save barrel aged stouts and DIPAs for special occasions.

I really like one of the most under-loved styles on BA:

    Rauchbiers.

Yes, they can be hard to get right. Yes, they can be hard to find. Yes, the good ones are delicious.

I love Vienna Lagers, Altbiers, and Baltic Porters.

There are a few great unsung Viennas and Alts here in Michigan. I always dig that I can find them without much trouble, in the face of the popular, more sought-after releases.

Short's here in Michigan had a great Baltic porter brewed in some kind of collaboration with Dogfish Head and Three Floyds, made with Beach Plums, red popcorn, and horehound. It was great. Wish there were more like this!

Another vote for baltic porters here! I love 'em, and you can hardly find an american brewery who makes one. Totally under appreciated.

I usually going on certain kicks with styles. This winter I was heavy into stouts. Now I am tapering off into more lighter stuff like pale ales and witbiers. I don't care what everybody thinks is popular. I usually will try something that stands out from the rest. Btw I am currently drinking a Celebrator.

All these mentions are making me thirsty. Has anyone mentioned fruit beer? 'Cause I could go for a Soft Parade right about now.

I love IPAs and stouts. But I really enjoy a great wheat beer (hefeweizen, weizenbock, witbeer, and Berliner weisse). The DMV is lucky enough to have breweries like Union and Right Proper brewing different styles. Union has a flagship Schwarzbier and an Altbier. Right Proper has a really good grisette (I actually don't know if it good compared to other grisette, but I enjoyed it).

Give me: Helles, Pilsner, Alt, Kolsch, Weizen, Dunkel, Rauchbier, Kellerbier, American Pale Ale, Session IPA, Black IPA, Irish Stout, Belgian Blonde, Belgian Pale.

Can live without RIS, sours and DIPAs.

Haha I know, right? It's funny, right before I saw your post I was thinking "huh, I guess wits are the under appreciated style that not even fellow fans of underappreciated beers can commiserate with"

Oh well, I still like them.

As far as I'm concerned, Boulevard makes two great ones. ZON is super-spiced and I really like it, and it's won several medals at GABF over the years. But their real gem is one that reminds me a bit of the benchmark for wits (St. Bernardus) in that there is some tartness to it: Two Jokers. Of course, they hadn't brewed it in several years before resurrecting it his year, and once again it doesn't appear on the release calendar for this year.
