If my choices were restricted to Doppelbocks it would be 20 days of Ayinger Celebrator and 20 days of Victory St. Victorious.

If I could choose an alternative style it would be 40 days of Schlenkerla Fastenbier.

    Cheers!

I was a fan of Boulevard Seeyoulator. Only had the pleasure of drinking this one time, but it was one of my favorites of their Smokestack Series. Also, the artwork and naming were pretty sweet (in my opinion).

How is that? I passed it up the other day because I have heard many great things about the revered Triple Bock but not much about the Double Bock...

Only had it once, but really enjoyed Bell's Consecrator.

I'll add a positive vote, if we're talking this one in their Imperial Series. It's pretty good to style, reminded me of German Eisbocks.

OTOH -- I've heard just the opposite of the Triple Bock -- even had it a few years back and agree with the "meat tenderizer" flavor comparisons.

Good to know! The bottle I saw was in an odd shaped 22 oz format, yellow label with just the ram on it. Any idea which one that is?

Metropolitan Dopplebock from Chicago for American. (Huber Bock for a throw back). German, ALL!

I too lament the under-representation of doppelbocks, but I suspect I know why they are.

Making a doppelbock ties up brewing equipment for about two months, possibly longer, for lagering. Meanwhile, there's a rather sizeable portion of the craft beer drinking world that will either not buy any of it, or buy one pint or bottle, then proceed to spray mediocre or worse reviews everywhere because it's "boring", "syrupy", or "cloying". Basically, "not hoppy enough".

Meanwhile, an IPA ties up equipment for about three weeks in total. It'll fly off the shelves, especially because everyone who drinks IPAs knows to buy 'em quick to drink them fresh, and the sizeable portion of the craft beer world that would rate the doppelbock meh at best will make sure that IPA is a 4 out of 5 or better pretty much anywhere beer can be rated or reviewed, as long as you have some semblance of a clue of how to brew a beer.

So, you've got two months invested for a smaller return on both sales and reputation, or less than one month for a larger return in both of those categories. I'm amazed there's ANY domestic attempts at doppelbocks, and I tend to support the heck out of the good ones. For all the good it does, since I loved GLBC's The Doppelrock, and that has been dropped from their seasonal lineup in favor of Chillwave.

But if we're talking which doppelbock I'd drink for 40 days straight, there's Celebrator and Korbinian for imports, and for domestics, Triple Digit Gravitator.

Hmm I have a Burley Oak Fat Kid in the cellar, maybe this would be a good time to drink it.

I spent a lent in Germany and came across a "lent beer" that was an under attenuated bock of some sort. It was low ABV with a lot of leftover sugars. That is, it wouldn't get you drunk, and was passably good for you.

Also, never forget the part of the story when the monks brought the beer to wine-drinking Rome to get approval and were commended for their piety and sacrifice.

Sounds like the one I linked to above (blue type that says "this one"), but here's the direct link:

I clicked that hyperlink (the blue type) and the label doesn't look the same so I assumed it was a different beer but I guess the label was updated.

I found cases of Missing Elf on sale for $1 per half liter bottle a few years ago. I'm not saying I would recommend it, but it'd be a cheap way to get through lent.
