They just posted on FB that the new tasting room in town will open in May and the brewery is no longer open to the public. I think them being open at the new spot was ONLY for Zwickelmania weekend.

The new spot was definitely rustic, that's for sure. Seemed partially like what they were going for and partially incomplete.

Ummmm, yeah, I did see that (I'm a big fan of the search function myself). However, as jason_nwx noted, that was apparently just for Zwicklemania (the website says the same, about the place being open for Zwicklemania last weekend). I was trying to find out about this weekend. Oddly enough, when I checked out their facebook page last night, it was listed as currently closed (of course), but that the next scheduled opening was "tomorrow, from 12:00 to 4:00." That seemed really odd, that they would be open on a Thursday, given everything else I saw on the Facebook page and the website. Hence my question...

Just so you know, I wasn't trying to be cheeky w/ the "behold" stuff (or, if anything, I was being cheeky to myself for posting a vague message and then following up with a link to the same info).

All of that said, I have no idea what the answer to your question is. And on behalf of those of us who are not on Facebook by choice, I wish breweries would just put current information on their own websites at least as reliably as they put it on their FB pages. This is the third time recently that I've heard of information on a local brewery FB page that is nowhere to be found on the brewery's own site. I guess it's probably easier to post something on FB or twitter than to post it on your own website, but as a person who goes to individual brewery sites for specific information, and who has no interest in being on Facebook, this practice can be pretty frustrating.

It's marginally easier because you can do it from an app on your phone, but in this era of modern web design and content management systems anyone who can use MS Word can (or should be able to) update simple things like hours and events on their actual website.

They have been so vague with any news since they closed the farm brewery to visitors. Their facebook post just says it's not open to the public. Does that still mean temporarily closed for the season or for good? The post also says visit our website for details. I don't see anywhere on the website that mentions the closing of the farm for visitors. I assume it's closed for good, but....

My interpretation is the farm is closed for good and the new HR location will open later in the spring and will be their only tasting room from then on. I'm not terribly surprised by how their communication has gone - just from looking at their website you can tell not a ton of time, money or skill was put into it...Perhaps revamping that will come later.

I've heard of people calling about visiting the brewery with favorable results.

I'm seeing a lot more of it on draft this year. So far, Bier Stein, 16 tons and the Tap and Growler have all had it on tap.

It's on tap at growler guys right now. What is the price that you are seeing?

$7 for an 8 ounce glass at the T&G. $9 for a 10 ounce glass at 16 tons. I don't think Bier Stein has put their keg on yet.

I'm surprised GG still has it on. Haven't they had it on tap for roughly a week now? I would have expected it to be long gone.

(as always, I literally turned green with envy when I took a look at the GG tap list just now. I can count on one hand the number of places I've ever been to that had notorious and hop venom on tap at the same time).

When they first put it on, I think T & G was allowing growler fills, at $18 a pop. I noticed that the online growler price for it has now been pulled. :-)

Curious how long it will take before bottles hit Seattle this year? It took about a month for them to arrive last year.

Hey all. I am the buyer for The Bier Stein in Eugene. I just wanted to correct some of the misinformation circulating on this thread about a few issues.

    1. We held our PnB until Valentine's Day per the brewery. We then sold through our PnB allotment in 5 hours with a 1 bottle per person limit at $20 out the door. We impose limits occasionally in hopes of spreading the love of these limited releases. We have not put our keg on tap and are saving it for our annual (shameless plug) Tower of Sour event during Eugene Beer Week in June. There must have been a miscommunication, we never planned an event around PnB.

    2. I take offense to the statement about playing "customer games". We never have and never will price gouge on limited releases, in fact we often take well below our normal markup in spite of the hefty cost of special releases. As I said we occasionally impose limits in an attempt to make it as fair as possible so one person doesn't buy the entire lot. We sold PtY at $8 per .25L with $3 going towards your choice of 3 different local charities. We do not overcharge for scarcity or "white whale" status. The point is we try really hard to run a respectable business and offer the best selection at a fair price.

    3. We are currently sold out of our allotment of ADWTD (although we did cellar a case!) and never lifted our 1 bottle per person limit. (We were breaking the rules to accommodate you John, for being a good customer).

    4. For updates and info about our events stay tuned to our website/FB page. Feel free to stop by or call to ask me for info regarding bottle releases or any other inquiries.

    Thanks for listening.

    Cheers,

    Dave Stockhausen

So what I learned today is that I should walk into The Bier Stein and ask for the John M. special.

    Got it.

My apologies Dave, if I provided inaccurate information about PnB. I simply passed along information that I thought had been communicated to me, and certainly I may have mis-interpreted what I heard. I did want to emphasize the fact that the beer appears to be very limited this year (at least bottles are), and that some places were going to extra lengths to try to spread the love around. If I understand your post correctly, that's what you're trying to do with ADWTD. Anyway, that was the point of my post... very sorry if you took my comments to be disparaging of your store. That was not my intent.

Yep. So much better (and more important) than being Ernest (Earnest). At least at the Bier Stein...

I've been able to grab 3 bottles up in Seattle, but availability seams more scarce this year. Maybe they dispersed the same amount of beer over a wider area. Glad I was able to get a few when I had the chance. This is one of my favorite beers.

Thoughts on drinking fresh vs. aging? I had one of my new bottles the other day and got a lot more fresh peach than I recalled from past years, but the bottle says best by 2020 (due to Brett I suppose). If I sit on it long enough will it somehow turn a corner and get even more awesome? (he asked doubtfully)
