"The Cramond Inn ... was owned by the Proudfoot family for almost a century."
Proudfoot? where have I heard that name before? Does anybody know what I'm Tolkien about?

But the Samuel Smith chain is well known for being draconian & harsh.

I was in Friends of Ham last night, had a nice half of Lagunitas Little Sumpin'. It's undergone an expansion recently but still always crowded, lot's of disposable income in Leeds. Just round the corner is Tapped Leeds and Bundobust and up the road from it is Leeds Brewery Tap.

My favourite story about Sir Humphrey is regarding his main source of income, producing frozen ready meals for supermarkets. Apparently Tesco wanted to negotiate a new price, Humph said no, Tesco said they needed to improve margins, Humph says whats that got to do with me? Tesco say we need a better price, Humph says you've already got the price. Tesco say we'll have to look elsewhere, Humph says OK. Six months later Tesco ask about a new contract as the replacement hadn't worked out, Humph says OK, but the price has gone up. Tesco say OK.

The comments are always the best/worst thing about these articles

    "
Whatever fancy language you use, so called "craft beer" is keg beer.
I for one, have spent the majority of my adult life searching for beer that is quite definitely not keg, and there are thousands like me. Why do people continue to write rapturous eulogies about it? "

Fancy language like "this beer is on cask"? I hate it when brewers use such technical language!

    Marstons buys Thwaites brewing business

I knew they ran into trouble and closed their brewery, but it's a shame that it is Marstons who have taken it over. I mainly like Thwaites for their bottle conditioned mild and porter, both of which I've used in homebrewing as it's a good yeast. They were good if unspectacular beers. I expect in coming years they will stop being bottle conditioned and further blandified by Marstons

    shame really

Marstons is the second coming of Greene King. When I think of the breweries we lost under similar circumstances (Belhaven, Youngs, Gales, Brakspear etc etc etc)...

When I saw Thwaites but by Marston's that was my first fear
and so unfortunately confident I am that it will become true
    that I am doing this
