?

Split the bottle/cost or buy it solo?

  1. Just buy the damn beer!

Sharing is caring. When I'm looking at well over $20 a bottle, I buy it with the plan to share, or I plan on going splitsees with someone.

It might be more than you'd normally pay for a bottle for yourself, but that's not really the point anymore, is it?

I would, if I could ever get him out of his gated, stately manor in West Gotham.

It's been coming here for maybe half a year now or something like that. It seemed to sell well when it first hit (everyone checking it out), but doesn't appear to move so much anymore - most likely due to cost.

Let me get this straight, you want folks on the Internet to tell you how to spend your money???

Uh no. I wanted to get folks thoughts on what the "value" of beers are. Where we all set our personal limits. Ya know, conversation.

The thing is only you, and your taste, can determine what your value on it is. And you can't really do that unless you taste it.
Sorry for my snarky post before.

I think we all have a formula though for a new beer we find at a higher price

Well, then, you've had access to Logsdon longer than I have, and I'm about 2700 miles closer to the brewery!

When I visited Tuscany, there was this great wine museum that had every italia wine avail for tasting. You bought a prepaid credit card up to any amount you wanted and walked around and put it in the slot of the wine you wanted to try. Some wines were .80 to try and the super rare ones might be 7 euro to try a sip. It was so cool just to try a little. This would be an awesome idea for a Beer Museum, Heady and Pliny shots could be $2, and PBR, .25. :-)

Sorry. I can pick some up and split it with you, but you'll have to meet me half way... shall we say South Dakota?

Thanks OP, this was a fun thread. Now you need to buy it (either way) and report back on your findings

at 25.4 oz its only a few more cents than a dollar per ounce...depends on on how badly you want to try it...rules are made to be bent

Spokane isn't closer to anything compared to New York. That's just like basic physics or something.

Again, I do not pay attention to the ratings, not a single fuck is given about the scores. Your post is exactly why I didn't include the beer to begin with. There are enough idiotic "is this beer worth this price?" threads, and I wanted to talk about something else. I didn't want the thread to be a bout a specific beer, but about how we all decide on what our limits are. If there were a beer that had 1,000 reviews, and every review gave it all 5's, how much would you pay for that beer? $1/oz? $5/oz? $100/oz?

To answer OP's question in the manner and spirit in which he intended, I don't have any hard and fast $/oz rules or anything like that. It's a complex and completely inconsistent algorithm consisting of the following and other variables:
    • Is it a style of beer I prefer?
    • Is it from a brewery I like and generally trust?
    • Does it sound like an interesting/unique beer?
    • What have I heard about this beer?
    • Am I likely to be able to consume the entire container by myself in a sitting, or is it a 20% beer in a 750 that is better either shared or split over a couple of days?
    • Have I had this exact same beer before?
    • Do I believe I might find it for less somewhere else?
    • Did I work overtime last week?
    • Do I have any other major expenses coming up?
    • How much have I already had to drink, and how impaired is my judgment?
But I think only we, as individuals, can decide whether to buy certain beers on a case-by-case basis. For me at least, it's almost never a simple black-and-white issue. Fortunately though, in the grand scheme of things the consequences of these decisions are usually relatively minor.

well it's not an absolute of course but this is just how I would gauge me spending more than I would normally feel comfortable with, which is the situation you were in to post this thread in the first place, and I was referring to the score IF this was my favorite style of brew
