You're right. Showing respect for others is for hippies, sissies, and democrats.

Yeah. Hoarding beer so that other people can't get it and only sharing it with people you like is a much fairer system.

I get that you're making an attempt at generosity (albeit incredibly misguided), but your buddies who can't seem to make it to the release do not deserve the beer any more than the very last person in line.

So to be clear...you are taking over your allotment causing people further back in line to potentially miss out so you can pick and choose which friends you want to sell/trade bottles to?

Maybe those who plan on drinking their Dark Lords can make it to DLD next year...

I don't buy or sell on E-bay but I don't hate on people who do. To each his own. We live in a capitalist society so resell of products is gonna happen.

    I don't use E-bay for a few reasons.

    1) Brewers are usually some of the nicest and generous people out there. Obviously there are exceptions to this but in most cases I would hate taking advantage of a small buisness owner by reselling there product purely for a profit.

    2) The beers are super expensive. I would never pay 300$ for a bottle of beer. I am not afraid of high priced beers but paying 300$ on the bay for a bottle of Blauw when you can buy one at De Heren for 30 euros seems real stupid to me. If you do the math and buy 5-6 bottles with this type of markup in the course of a year you could pay for a flight overthere and get everything else that comes with a trip to Europe.

    3) There are few "whales" that I have really gone out of my way to get. Most of the stuff I have ticked over the years has been at tastings as the result of very generous people. I am generous and as a result people are generous with me. No need for E-bay on this.

    4) It's only beer at the end of the day. If I never get to try Ann or 1999 Framboos am I gonna die.. No. In the 6-5 years I have been heavily into craft beer I have noticed that more and more people treat this stuff as a collectable not a refreshing beverage. It's a shame.

Extremely redundant at the end there!

Sharing with good friends versus sharing with strangers. Hm....not sure where "respect" comes into play there.

My friend didn't get any Hopslam since you bought some to trade. Then my other friend couldn't get any PtE for his wedding since your trading partner bought beer they had no intention to drink, all to trade it to you. Double standards suck, huh?

That's what I say to the people who show up too late to get a "RaRe" beer.

The real issue here is the guy bringing several mules to go way over his allotment, me picking up a six pack of Hopslam (off the shelf no less) to trade doesn't really seem in the same ballpark.

I rather just let people do what they want to do, not try to regulate the world through my precise view.

kzoobrew already said he had no issue with that, but you still tried to take him down a peg for some reason I can't understand, though I am a little afraid that you're going to tell me.

So admitting to muling is wrong, that's what I'm gathering.
Posting a multiple bottle (over alottment) ft:iso thread with some bs reason how you came into extra bottles is okay.

If I keep a couple extra bottles out of the hands of those that wish to "profit" and ask for half of your cellar for a $7 bottle beer, I won't lose sleep at night.

it all comes down to personal responsibility, since every situation is different.

e.g. muling usually has pretty obvious problems with it (not the least of which being that the brewer / store put on a bottle limit for a reason and the muler's response is, "fuck you, i don't care"). but what about 2 people go to a release, buy a 1 bottle limit beer each, share 1 bottle, then trade the other. was one of them "a mule"? in a way, yeah. is it wrong/disrespectful? i can't see it that way.

unfortunately, things like this can't be left to personal responsibility, because many people don't seem to have any. nor compassion, altruism, etc. that's where community shaming comes in, to protect community interests.

No. It happens and always will. But don't think that you're going to be viewed as some sort of arbiter of beer advocacy because you brought a bunch of your friends to buy you more so that you can in turn "share" your over-alottment with people who couldn't be bothered to make it out.

Define over-alottment. 3x the amount per person?

Nice how you glazed over the real point here. You're not keeping these bottles out of the hands of someone who's looking to make a profit. You're keeping bottles out of the hands of the people who just barely make it on time. You're not Robin Hood so you can stop wearing those ridiculous green tights.
