First time with this hop - not sure about this one!

L - bright golden straw with a touch of haze. 1 inch white head that leaves heavy lacing
S - dank onions and garlic. Very earthy and pungent
T - Dank, with some citrus and fruit notes hiding behind
M - good body, fine soft carb

Overall, a very interesting beer, but the hop profile is certainly unique. Personal preference aside it is very well made, but the onion / garlic hops on the nose are a challenge

A very interesting beer, but the hops are certainly unique. Not getting much of the lemongrass per advertisement. On the fence about this one

Edit - as this warms a touch and as I get deeper in the glass it is growing on me. Perhaps 'pungent' is a more appropriate descriptor. I am digging this more as I get used to the full frontal aroma.

What's up nbs players. Hot and humid here on the island. Spent the day at the beach with a steady rotation of beers and cooling off in the great Atlantic.

My new beer today is highland ale from Innis & Gunn. Described as a scotch ale aged over oak chips and infused with actual scotch whiskey. Been a bit since I've had anything from i&g but it came in a fancy box which makes it feel like a present.

Another beauty of a pour with an orange, ruby color and decent clarity. Nose speaks of oak, scotch, and bread. Nice and smooth on the start with some pronounced barrel action. Lots of that scotch feel right upfront with notes of oak, caramel, and vanilla. Very smooth on the finish as well. The mouth feel is a tad thin.

Overall, a good beer that leaves some desire. I would have liked it to be a bit bigger, especially with the scotch infusion, but I really enjoy the oak notes. I'm right around the 4's,

Hey NBS crew! My brew to day is Auroch's Horn an ale brewed with honey by Olvalde Farm and brewing company. It's a very unique beer with the feel of a farmhouse ale and the taste of a Belgian quad. The honey adds a nice sweetness and levels out the booze. Combine that with the sparkling effervescence of the farmhouse ale and it's quite the enjoyable mix.

Happy New American Imperial Stout Sunday!

This is my first NBS in Colorful Colorado! Did a nice little hike in CNM (about 5 miles from my place), sunny around 98 or so today, but some clouds came in and brought the temps down a bit. Glad to have gotten turned onto this brew about a month or so ago, thanks Ben. I've had a few from this brewery, all very very tasty. This one has got to be up there a ways! Definitely one of the best this year for me.

One of the last of my haul from a recent trip to the UK. A pretty fitting take on gueuze for a blistering summer day, this one is light and drinkable, sweet apple fruity and a little tart vinegary-ness. Not as complex as 3 Fonteinen, who I still believe makes the best non-fruited gueuze, but a rare treat nonetheless. Cheers!

    1. The overall experience is much more tart/sour farmhouse ale than spearmint ... like 99% of the former and 1% at most of the later.
    2. The spearmint is true mint, not a bunch of Wrigley's spearmint gum chopped up and thrown in. In fact, the sweetness in this beer, which is very, very subdued, probably comes from the kumquats or barley, not the spearmint.
    3. Like I say, I'm shocked myself. But for my tastes, the spearmint really adds something good. It's incredibly subtl; any more would be too much I bet.

It's not for everybody. But neither is all-spice or clove in a beer, not to mention pumpkin (ever eat real pumpkin? it sucks!), so spearmint doesn't seem too outlandish compared to all the stuff our brewers are tossing in the kettle, tank and barrel these days.

And now I've got another new beer, a new style for me, too:
Possibly I should've started my career as a lambic drinker with a lambic, but JK's bottle shop ran out of this brewery's kriek lambic :slight_frown: so I settled for their gueuze. If I thought JK's farmhouse ale was sour, wow! Not even close ... this gueuze is giving my mouth a puckering workout.

Put simply, St. Louis Fond Tradition Gueuze Lambic is sour. Real sour. Mostly lemons, and there's no sweetness and almost no other flavor save a slight doctor's office rubbing alcohol.

    3.42
    -11.9% (rDev)

I'm generally not a fan of one-note beers ... harder still for me to like one whose only note is carbonated lemons. But the mouth-watering effect is fun anyway, and if I'm going to learn anything about gueuze, I had to start somewhere, right?

This brew is the first of a handful of non-Jester King beers I got at JK's bottle shop, which is loaded with beer that's hard to find in Texas (in some cases, impossible to find except at JK). Next time I go I'll look for another gueuze to see what else there is to see ... and I'll drink a couple of lambics between now and then to help me along the way.

    Cheers!

What's up with New England being hotter than North Carolina? We just got back from a walk and it has warmed up....it's still very comfortable. Still, we are thinking very Fall like conditions for now, because August here can be completely stifling. Weather be weird.

I'd take fall-like conditions anytime. Great sleeping weather. The hot is best saved for the beach. Which is where I will be in less than a month. Tequila and Grapefruit Sculpin all damn day mixed in with some horseshoes.

    Sixpoint Brewery Jammer
    Gose - 4.2% ABV

    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25
    --- 3.89/5 ----

12oz can. First, the presentation on the can is top notch like all of the Sixpoint brews. The label art, colors, and overall branding is awesome. The beer pours a slightly hazy golden color with orange hues. The aroma is coriander right away, with some citrus, and salt. The taste is very light bodied but the flavors are integrated beautifully. Salt and coriander with a moderately sour finish create a really nice combination of flavors. Where this beer really shines is its drinkability. At 4.2%, this beer can be quaffed with the best of them and the fact that it is in a can makes it a wonderful tailgating beer for these warm Florida summer and fall months. Overall, Jammer is unquestionably one of the better beers from the style that I have tried. Cheers Sixpoint!

2nd one today here, the coffee aroma is gloriously wafting out of the glass.
this is thick too, swashing from side to side like motor oil in Chicago in January.
dark, almost non existent head. and boy does it look pretty in the glass.
just got back from an eagle scout ceremony down the street,so I raise this glass
the that youngster heading off to college, and any other eagle scouts out there! cheers

Round three for me. Going all out on some new hoppy pale ale / IPAs in the fridge today:

16 oz can about 2 weeks old.

L - clear pale golden straw with quickly dissipating white head
S - Dank onion, with citrus and passion fruit playing backup
T - grapefruit, with sharp bitterness
F - very light poundable body. Dangerously easy to put away, but you can feel the alcohol lurking

Overall a very tasty pale ale with a light spritzy feel that is perfect for a hot summer day. Not sure the ABV, but this would sneak up on you fast if you were thirsty. As to the band and the music - not a clue, but the beer is mighty fine!

I know man, I wanted to hold out and let it "mature", but I only had one bottle, so I figured I'd just go for it. Have one last bottle of my fave -- 3F -- that I def plan on letting linger in the cellar for a good long while:slight_smile:

Lol, I "jumped the gun" once and I was sorry I did. I drank an Abyss before it's "Enjoy After" date. I will never have that beer again, but I now trust a brewer when they say age their product! 3F make great Lambics so theres no love lost on that Cantillon.

So far I've had 2 new beers today and who knows..there might be a 3rd!

First up is WOOtstout 3.0. While I have a few bottles of this, I still haven't had it. Certainly got a good dose of milk chocolate and a bit of vanilla with it. I think the pecans give it a smooth and slightly nutty taste/mouthfeel and the barrel aging doesn't come out strongly but is present. I read that a bunch of people get a soy sauce type flavor with it and while I don't disagree with that, I didn't really get it. All in all a good beer that I am looking forward to when I get to my bottles but will certainly be aging at least 1 of them.

Next is Sour in the Rye. Smells like sour apples and vinegar. I didn't get much else other than that except for maybe a bit of the rye. As soon as it enters it is a short but powerful burst of sour fruit (mainly apple) with some vinegar and then it quickly mellows out and the carbonation kicks in which isn't a lot but enough to make the beer refreshing and not heavy. On the back end it's pretty smooth and doesn't leave as much of an aftertaste as I would have expected.
