Notch Pils is Světlé Výčepní 10º (Nefiltrované), or what the Czech's would simply call an unfiltered Desítka. I think we are the only US brewery making this style of beer.

Thanks for the good words on the Salem brewery. Our brewhouse design has a dedicated decoction vessel / cereal cooker for multiple decoction capability and "adjunct" brewing. Lager! And tours!

At least in germany, many people know or have an idea how to call wines from italy, france, or spain by their correct name and pronounce it, mostly, correctly.
Why can't the same be done with slavic languages for their styles? I find the kind of prejudice towards slavic languages to be hard to learn and pronounce sad because in reality, the czech language for instance has,at least when it comes to pronounciation, a very simple and strict rule set, way more coherent than english or german, yet alone french.
    How was it before then?
And yeah, the confusion that bigger brewers call their unfiltered beers Kvasnicové always annoyed me.
I love proper Kvasnicové, I think I need to get back to the czech republic soon.

Weird- so Aldi UK has their own brand beer brewed in germany, while Aldi germany has it brewed in belgium?? Makes no sense to me...

Aldi Nord beer (Maternus) is brewed in Belgium. I think Aldi Sud beer comes from Frankfurt/Oder, but I might be wrong on that one as it's a while since I've checked their beer range.

I don't think its such a straightforward affair- I think some a brewed in Bocholt, Belgium, some in Dresden, some in Frankfurt/Oder.......depends on the beer and such..complicated.

Looking up info on Aldi worldwide, it appears that Aldi Nord operated the UK Aldi stores and Aldi Süd operates the US Aldi stores. Although, Aldi Nord also owns the Trader Joe's chain in the US, so I'll have to double-check the imports on their shelves, to that -- our Aldi stores carry different imports that may or may not match to the beers being discussed.

Their German-Style Lager, made in Belgium is called Bacher. And they have a Belgian Wit, brewed by the same Belgian brewery that makes the Bacher, called Kinroo Blue (no, I don't know why) that is actually very good -- I'm trying to turn Blue Moon drinkers on to this one.

Aldi and beer sure is funny.
Back in the days before the Dosenpfand in germany, they had Römer Kölsch cans in the cologne area-which was rebranded Küppers Kölsch, but tasty:wink: Later, they reintroduced Küppers Kölsch in plastic bottles, but sadly not for long..
Nowadays, there is no beer at Aldi in germany which I like:slight_frown: Funnily, it is a different story at Aldi in france, luxemburg, the netherlands or belgium, where they have strong, belgian style abbey beers and witbiers.

Guess someone won't be going to the Canstatter Volkfest! :grinning:

Can you describe what made it terrible?

Bland and boring. Dinkelacker is served in the tent we usually frequent, plus drinking it in a fest tent makes it taste better.

You know Dinkelacker and Schwaben Bräu are under the same ownership?
    No denying that.

Maybe just substitute the names of Dinkelacker and Schwaben Bräu in the below graphic?

    Cheers!
