I love Grapevine Brewing's Sir William's English Brown. 4.9%, canned, just delicious. It's my current default beer when I don't want anything new.

Too bad you weren't looking for Milds in May:
    http://www.mildmonth.com/

There were 50 different US breweries that brewed a mild.

There are good cask/real ale festivals all around the US (I believe Yards has one in the spring). That would be the best way to try some milds (other than heading across the pond).

    For anyone interested:

Evil Twin collaborated with Beavertown on "XXX - Imperial Mild Ale." It's 9.5%, brownish in color, prohibitively expensive, really tasty, and based on a historical recipe (maybe one that an uncredited Ron Pattinson dug up). It's listed here as an ESB rather than a mild, probably because it wouldn't comfortably fit in any current box (but if not Mild, then English Strong wouldn't be a terrible choice).

Yup, every spring there is a Real Ale festival at Yards. I go every year.

    Cheers!

I spoke to him for a half hour at the 2014 National Homebrewers Conference; an enjoyable conversation.

Yup, Ron can be a jolly good fellow!

    Cheers!

Perhaps slightly off-topic, but since it hasn't been mentioned Firestone Walker DBA is my favorite year-round American-brewed English pale/bitter. It is even partially fermented in oak barrels.

Amazing flavor considering the sub 4% abv, I'm a fan. Ya know, that's a slight, amazing flavor no matter what. I've had some that tasted as hoppy as a PA, nice stuff. If your in NC check out Bull City.

Milds and ESB's are very nice change of pace beers and I enjoy good ones quite alot. Yards Brawler is very tasty and solid as mentioned. My favorite Yards beer so far. For ESB's, I found Schlafly's to be very tasty and well made. Of course Fullers is very good when its somewhat fresh.

Bell's Best Brown Ale might be a nice one for you. Caramel, chocolate, nutty, little pine. The Tumbler from Sierra Nevada is quite nice too, in that style. It came in their fall pack, don't know if you can get 6'ers of it.

Dark mild ale, GI mild winter. Pale mild ale, I have wondered for a long time. Not one on my mind.

I had Brawler and really enjoyed it. This is a style I'd love to see more options in.

i'm hoping garrett et al (the americans) can one day mend fences with martyn and ron. i do think martyn cornell was perhaps blowing the impact of errors in the first edition of the oxford companion out of proportion, or at least i understand why oliver took it to heart or personally. after all, it was his labor of love for several years out of his already busy life as brewmaster (and beer celebrity).

Brawler is indeed quite tasty. I'd drink the hell out of that stuff if we got it here in Texas (as you probably know already ). Do you know if it's distributed to the Pittsburgh area?

It's too bad the style isn't well-represented. It's arguably a perfect session beer for any season.

If we're talking jacked up versions of old recipes then Ring Your Mother 1832 XXXX Mild is a good'n. Not your typical mild though. I actually sent one out to a mate in California.
