I definitely like doppelbocks a lot, particularly the darker toastier ones, but it's never really registered as a go-to style for me; more as an occasional treat. Maybe it's that I find some of them to be cloying or that when I want a rich dark malt-forward beer I lean towards other styles but it's probably more a matter of visibility.

As some have mentioned, US breweries aren't churning them out in high numbers and many of the ones I see are sub-par. I think maybe it's just another one of those German styles that US breweries by and large struggle with.

I've never seen Korbinian or Vitus in anything but the taller pint+ bottles. I'd easily grab Vitus in 6 or 4 pack. I love that I can get Aventinus in a 4 pack.

I think the 6 packs are recent additions to their line-up.

In Munich from around 3/17 to the first week of April the six Munich breweries stage a festival in their Kellers. It is called Starkbier Fest for Strong Beer. It is kind of a mini Octoberfest but with what I think is a better style of beer. The Kellers have bands--feats of strength contests and general German Drunkeness. Also Ayingers has a bar right across the street from the Hofubrau with Celebrator on tap days from the brewery. It is like Mothers Milk. That good. If you are a true fan of this style of beer this is a must experience.

Andechs is the best doppelbock I've found. Celebrator is a close second.

You are right on with those two choices. Andechs has a tap house in Munich and have been to the Weihenstephaner brewery. Could not get enough of either one.

Love d-bocks, one of my favorite styles and one of the ones that helped get me into craft beer. Just recommended Korbinian to a co-worker new to good beer. The style makes a good jumping off point, imo.

I really enjoyed dopplebock when I started drinking craft beer, but I quickly outgrew the style because I was more interested in trying many new beer styles that I had never tried before. Besides not long after I started drinking craft beer I found BCBS. That was a life changing beer epiphany from the first sip... and back then you could even find 4 packs on the shelf year around back then :grimacing:. Ahhhh, it great to reminisce of the good ole days

I have enjoyed the few dopplebocks I've tried, it is a great malty style, but I feel the biggest issue is the fact that there aren't ton of examples of the style on the shelf.

Kind of unrelated, but does your user name have anything to do with the fact that you like dopplebocks?

Depending on what it is this year...the Weihenstephan holiday mix pack could have both of these, plus the Original, Dunkelweizen, and Hefeweizen. I have so many of their glasses because this is such a great deal.

I remember with Deschutes put up the Dopple Dinkle Bock. I was telling my sales rep they should have aged it in George Dickel Barrels so we could have sold Deschutes Dickel Barrel-Aged Dopple Dinkle Bock!

Perfectly stated Domingo. I also used to not like it much, but now I really do on occasion. And when I am in Munich with the family, the place we stay at is equally close (5-7 min. walk) to both Weisses Brauhaus and Andechser am Dom. Having either Andechs doppelbock or Schneider Hopfenweisse or Aventinus (all on tap) as my choices for a night cap or two is about as good as it gets.

I found one a month or so ago in Chicago-land and I thought it was pretty well done. It's a heller bock, and at 8.0%, it seems to be doppelbock strength to me . I wish I had bought more of it. Schönramer Saphir Bock
