    New Scotch Ale Sunday

One more new one today: Scotch Ale from Smuttynose (2015 version):

    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Striking dark copper/ruby color with a shy tan head. Somewhat muted aromas of plum, peaty malt and bread. I got a rush of bready malt on the first taste, followed by plum, cherry and smoky peaty malt with some oaky notes. A lighter finish, more dry than sweet, with a gentle warming at the end. Thinner and not as hearty as I would expect, but for a sub 8% ABV (it is 7.9%), pretty nice. All in all, a nice sipper.

So far the only beer I've tried from Jackie O's, thanks you @SomethingClever. Had it last weekend, such a good stout and worthy of its name!

    New Berliner Weiss Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
A late entry this week. Quite caught up in a mess of family and other obligations. I don't feel rested as I prepare to return to work tomorrow. Is being busy better than boredom?:astonished:
Today's entry is another Berliner Weiss from the Schell's series called Noble Star Collection. This one has the addition of rye.
    Here's description.

Less spicy and less fruity than other versions, but a little more feel with a little more noticeable malt/rye aroma and taste.
Best to all this week. Winter hits tomorrow with 3-6 inches of snow predicted in these parts.

Now up a growler of Victory Dry Hopped Saison thanks my youngest sister buying me a Victory swing top growler and filling last night for my birthday.

    4.05/5 rDev +9.8%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

64 oz growler poured into tulip
Got it at Kennett location, didn't say Hopt Ticket, but assuming it is the same beer given the ABV

A- A very slightly hazy golden straw color with a three finger white head.

S- Pineapple, faint honey dew, mild saison style funk, peppercorns and some pine.

T- Earthy, some wet grass, peppercorns, very mild funk, light fruits, hints of pineapple give the beer a nice lift.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A very middle of the road dry hopped saison, not tart or overly complex, but still a good saison for an Joe six pack beer drinker. If it was bottles I would buy it.

Still waiting for my wort to cool, but got a gallon of cider started.

I'm back from an afternoon on the road. I finally got to visit one of the Canal's liquor super-stores that I have been reading about, and I gotta tell ya, if I lived in the area I'd be a happy camper. Really nice selection, and great mix of everyday stuff and special bottles. I was specifically looking for beers I don't see up here, so I wound up with 4 bottles and a sixer that caught my eye. I'm sure I'll be down that way soon enough, so no need to buy out the store just yet .

The first one I'm opening tonight is from Mispillion River-
    [IMG]
    Black Tie, black IPA

This sixer was my token 'from the area' purchase, just so I didn't go overboard on imports . And I'm really pleased with it. I have always enjoyed West Coast Stouts to begin with (i.e. hoppy ones), so this style isn't too far from that ideal.

The initial nose is of pine, orange peel, peach and lots of espresso roast. On the palate the roast is just as dominant, but a gentle fruitiness takes over midway, before leading to a heavy slam of piney bitterness. The construction is pretty much like a porter, and before long a dark chocolate quality dominates the long roasty finish. It's getting better, and less like an IPA, the more I drink it. Jeez- just call it a hoppy porter, guys! Totally up my alley. The best ones, imo, lean towards the citrus, which makes for a better overall drinking experience. This one unfortunately hits that resiny pine a bit too much to make it top tier for me. Solid B+ (3.85), and I will enjoy the remainder of what I have.

Know what? I can't decide whether Nancy or Century Ale was better, they were both so damn amazing

Not really a fan of peach wild ales..always have an odd taste to me..this one wasn't bad tho.

New Belgiums Lips Of Faith Series Eric's Ale Wood aged
with peaches and is a 50/50 mix of wild ale and a lager?

L: Golden orange copper color half a finger of head with a super light pour.

S: Starts of with a funky ripe fruit smell some acidity for sure peach maybe some apple also. Great smelling stuff.

T: Slight acidity peaches for sure not really any funk at all and an odd generic malt taste I can't really put my finger on..

F: Juice. It feels like juice.

O: Good flavor and smells .... but could definitely use more funkiness and tartness great stuff tho not my favorite wild ale for new Belgium.

I can't vouch for Century...(never tried it). Yet Nancy was such a great beer. I wish they would produce more every year.

To me, Century wasn't THAT far off from something like Golden Brett...but I dunno, it just seemed so much lighter and more enjoyable to me. That's the kind of beer I could drink all day on a desert island surrounded by total babes.

Greetings from the frigid northwest. The temperature today never got above 23, and like yesterday the frost never melted from the trees.

Perhaps today is an appropriate opportunity to try Session Fest Red Lager.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5316/73629/

One of the more affordable "craft" beer lines in the northwest from the folks at Full Sail. I think most of the Session family of beers are rather pedestrian, packaged in these cute little 11 ounce bottles. But this one is actually pretty good. Reminds me a lot of Sam Adams Winter Lager. This one might be a staple at my house for the next couple of months?

Winding down a long holiday weekend here on the ranch. A lot of food, family and football. Watching the Seahawks try to close out the Steelers, doing some on-line shopping and thinking about getting a Christmas Tree next weekend.

    'Tis the season,

    Happy Trails!

L-A towering 2 inch head appears on the initial pour which I have to rescue from overflowing the glass. A lovely caramel coloring with spotty lacing.
S- soft bready malts dominate. Upon secondary examination I am able to separate the phenols of the Belgian yeast.
T- The malt is the foremost flavor with a hint of fruity yeast in the finish.
F- High level of carb lends to the light, prickly, and dry mouthfeel of the brew. I am really digging this right now.
O- Lighter, dryer, and cleaner than a lot of other ambers. I'm sufficiently impressed to want this as a fridge staple.

See, this is why one needs to share bottles while drinking :slight_frown:. I definitely got vanilla (which can escape me at times), but the beer is gone and I can't re-assess now.

I agree with both your choices, but all the Allagash small format wild/barrel beers carry that price tag and are so drinkable it seems my $$ are gone in a flash (and Farm to Face seemed more scarce this last batch). Will treat myself to these again at some point, though.

Greetings NBS beer people. I have a few new beers to try today but not sure if I'll post more than one. I got a really nice one today that @warrendietrich2001 sent me and although I am just starting down the wild ale, funky, sour path I thought I would give it a go.

My NBS beer today is the Farmer's Reserve Pluot from Almanac.

Here is what i looked like when I first poured it.

Here is what it looked like with my half of the rib-eye with a pile of yummy salad with homemade blue cheese dressing.

Here is what I thought of it.

    4.02/5
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

This beer smells tart. You can smell the wine, yeast, plums, oak and honey with some clove like spiciness. The taste is tart but carries all of the plum and honey to the forefront on some decent carbonation. The wine and tartness show up after the swallow and then a pleasant clove and banana taste is present in the lingering sweetness after the swallow. Very nicely done wild ale with a very tasty balance of flavors.

Overall it was a great beer.

    Cheers all.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, NBSers. My first submission is this big, brawny, ballsy ale.

The Bastard series has always been a special group of beverages for me. The first time I had Arrogant Bastard (and the first Stone beer I had, period) was on Christmas Eve 3 or 4 years ago with my bro-in-law, and I had Lukcy Basartd with the same bro-in-law to toast our Mother-In-Law when she passed last year.

This iteration is the best of the Bastard bunch, IMHO. HUUUUUGE hop flavors, balanced with what I think is a caramel malt, this amber-hued beauty is way too drinkable to be an 11% ABV beverage. I only bought this one bomber (bottle 10/13/15), and I wish I had purchased six - it's truly magnificent. Rated 4.44 here:
