Could go either way, hard water *can* accentuates hops, our water quality is good and the water profile is well enough balanced to brew any style well. It just so happens though that newer IPAs are of the style where higher level of water hardness in the water is preferred, whereas with stouts you want high alkalinity, our water is somewhere in between.

I'd like to point out though that brewing is an art first, and science second. Science can improve results, but the end beer is an interpretation of how a beer should taste/smell and that is left up to the brewer.

Also, water is very easy to treat for brewing.

That Rocky Mountain water REALLY does make the difference in Coors though.

I just had BA Hammer and Sickle from Renegade on tap at Brewers Republic. No joke, this was a seriously great beer. It had a really nice aroma, good flavor of whiskey and chocolate, and a medium mouthfeel. Surprised me and my buddy. Seek it out.

Didn't know they'd done a BA version, I really like the base beer. I'll have to give it a try!

Hammer & Sickle is probably my favorite local imperial stout; it's gotta be the easiest drinking 9.5% beer I've ever had.

I guess I should have said a professional brewery should be able to control their water to be more clear.

Especially around here where your source can change many times per year.

Avery Vanilla Bean Stout Bourbon Barrel Aged is on at the Growler station at Liquor Shed in Casper. Got me one and it is delicious!

Bad Motorfinger from Denver Beer Co is pretty solid. Nice milk chocolate and vanilla notes.

Stopped by Jakes in Littleton today and found 2014 and 2015 Oil Man and 2014 and 2015 Bligh"s on draft and while they were good have to admit I thought Hawaiian Speedway Stout (which they currently have too) was the best of the lot.

I didn't enjoy BA Hammer and Sickle even a little bit. Crazy since @Dan_K and I have pretty similar palates I think. The smell was of strong rubbing alcohol, and the flavor followed suit. I'm a whiskey drinker, but this was heavy phenol alcohols.

That said, Boneyard Notorious was the tits. (not a stout obv)

So it looks like Copper Kettle is tapping BA Mexican Chocolate Stout tomorrow, thought I would give everyone a heads up.

Have to jump on the Diebolt Commodore bandwagon - had my first one tonight and it's a damn good beer.

I'm not the biggest fan of everything from Deibolt, but I liked the Commodore more than I was expecting. Real quality beer there.

Anybody have the BA Dark Star from S26?

They just posted on Twitter that they won gold for it recently and will be releasing it in bombers. Wondering if it's something to seek out.
