Went up to pizza boy yesterday, and snagged some while I was there. Had one last night, at 9 days old from a can it was just as delicious as I remember.

I will certainly be picking up a 6er of these. Really enjoyed the Pounder cans last year, plus they stack better in my basement.

To me cans always stay fresher than bottles and they stay better in the fridge than the bottles. When I was in Hershey back in December I purchased a case of their scratch 218 double IPA. Which tastes dam close to the nugget nectar. I know as soon as I purchase the bottles, the cans will come out.

Based on some input from people in the industry in these posts here and here, it would really depend on whether Troegs's bottling line or canning line is better at minimizing oxygen levels during packaging, and what type of bottle crowns are being used. Rather than a simple "can vs. bottle" argument.

If the canning line is comparable to the bottling line wrt TPO (Total Packaged Oxygen) then the can is 100% the superior package since zero air (oxygen) ingress occurs post packaging.

As regards the cap liner, the best damn cap liner in the world will still permit air (oxygen) ingress to occur. Less air (oxygen) will get through a oxygen mitigating cap liner (e.g., the cap liner that Sierra Nevada uses) then a 'regular' cap liner but no cap liner totally stops air (oxygen) ingress.

Do you have the TPO values for the Troegs bottle and can lines?

    Cheers!

Edit: Here is some math I posted in the thread you linked:

"The bottom line is that it is preferable for a packaging line (canning or bottling) to have a low TPO value off the line. A bottled beer with a TPO of hundreds of ppm of oxygen will just get worse over time if they use a ‘regular’ crown liner (which permits 7 ppb ingress per day). For example, a bottled beer with TPO of 200 ppb off the line would have a 620 ppb of oxygen after 60 days. A canned beer with TPO of 200 ppb will have 200 ppb after 60 days."

Nope, no idea. But I would think a high quality larger brewery like Troegs should have pretty good QA/QC procedures for either packaging type.

But I would probably trust a bottled beer from Troegs to stay fresher longer than a canned beer from a small brewery.

It depends on the length of time considered; see my edit portion of my post above.

    Cheers!

Always been a fan of nugget nectar. However, in my opinion, this is not the brew I worshipped in 2011 and 2012. All malt now. I wish I knew what changed. There is certainly not a hop explosion, but it's a strong caramel forward Amber. Reminding me of a hoptimum for some reason.

I've heard that some of my local shops have it, I'll be picking it up in the next couple of days.

Wow....3 weeks old is now considered "old" for an amber ale?

    What nonsense.....
