Bell's Hopslam 2016

Two or three was really all I could usually get to begin with. I'm sure I could have driven all over town for more but not worth it for me. Go figure though that this year Bell's produced more and it's distribution issue that are keeping it out of our hands.

Got mine today. $18/6 pack. As good as ever. I see people bitching about the price if it's over $15/6 pack. Really? Search under the couch cushions, find the additional $0.50/beer and pick some up. This shit's that good.

 

On Tap in Kenosha at Highway Mikes. Haven't seen the cans/kegs/bottles in stores just yet

To me, the Hopslam of a few years ago seemed more grape-fruity or something.

Less of that in this years version, and I really like it. Even got my tightwad buddy to pick up a sixer so he doesnt have to drink mine!

Again I'll say that, at least for michigan folks, it's important to ask. Went to the meijer at 8 and haggerty and none was out but when I asked I was told they have 10 cases in the back but can't put it out or the local party stores will buy it all and then charge $20+ a six. They'll grab you what you want though. It was $16.99.

 

I can tried it. I bought a case of it two years ago to save for summer consumption. It did not hold up. I would buy it with the expectation of drinking it now.

Canned 1/21/16 and will be opened tonight so it'll be the freshest I've had and really look forward to it as it'll be my 1st beer of 2016

 

I did a vertical last year with '13, '14, '15 and it drastically changes from a hoppy DIPA to a pretty mellow barleywine with pronounced honey. '13 was really not tasting great and started to get more sugar/caramel flavors so I don't recommend aging over a year.

 

I picked up 2 at Woodmans on Randall Road around noon today. There were only two left.

 

I went to the Des Plaines Binnys yesterday around 6pm looking for Hi-Res and they didn't know when it was coming in. I saw a small stack of Hopslam for $18 a sixer and decided to the gym next door. 30 min later I was back at Binnys and the stack of Hopslam went from above waist level to knee level so I grabbed one sixer. Had one last night and I was extremely impressed. Better than Pliny but the Pliny was about 2-3 weeks old and traveled on a plane without refrigeration. Also thought Hopslam was better than Chillwave. Never had Hopslam before but I will try it every year from now on.

 

Will not be seeking this year. Wish they were doing Black Note this year
