The local shop sent back what they got and ordered another case. It was still 2015. Apparently the distributor has 10 cases in stock, probably all last year. It doesn't look good for getting new stock this year.

It is my understanding that the top number (in your case 15.069) is the Julian date, with 15 being the year and 069 being the day the beer was produced, but I could be wrong. I did a search and found this Hopfenweisse picture. The 13 on both lines of this bottle match up the same way your 15 does (15.069 and 030215). I don't know what the meaning of the number on the bottom is but it's possible it could be another date in ddmmyy format.

One day breweries will make this easy on all of us and print an easy to read date on the bottle.

Ugh. Why would a distributor hold on to year-old beer? Unless, of course, they feel they can pass it off to the unsuspecting. Pretty underhanded. I hope they don't handle some of the other beers you really like.

Have you ever had a Tap 1, their blonde?

We received 2016 stock in Boston. So, there's some out there somewhere at least!

It was good, maybe not as good as the bottle of Maerzen I had a few weeks ago, but good enough that I'm going to pick up another bottle of the Fastenbier. You can tell it's fresh by how smoky it was. It was even pleasant smelling the bottle the next morning, exceedingly smoky.

I think I can pin down fresh vs. old now, as the Urbock I had a few months ago was very mediocre, way too much bacon in the flavor, not as smoky. I really wish these guys would date their bottles (with a code the consumer can read at least).

They probably figure they have a better chance of selling it if they don't have a date. I was in a shop on Saturday and they had 4 or 5 Mahr's beers. They had dates and everyone was at least 11 months old. I passed.

No, not that I can recall (not sure if I've even seen it around here). I have had the Edel Weiß in the past and, while good, it was just another Weizen to me. I enjoy the original because it's a little different than the standard Weizen.

I find the Tap4 quite a bit different with its big Herbal notes and more bitterniss.

Too soon for any proper statement but in a first impression i must say the kellerbier is impossibly tasty and just hope it is here to stay. I took some fast notes but maybe better give it a few more tries. Don´t have any mug or stein, so i couldn´t resist to pour a couple of bottles in here...

I don´t see any reason for this one not to become a part of the line up being such a classical style (as other well known Bavarian breweries do), but in the other hand i´ve just had a very small amount of kellerbiers (Weltenburger, Hacker-Pschorr, Gravensteiner come to mind), so i don´t feel entitled to ask the masters for anything yet!

You are a passionate customer. Weihenstephaner Brewery should want to hear your thoughts.

Breweries that stay in business are the ones that meet the demands of their customers.

    Cheers!

Thanks Jack. I still think you can´t have a proper idea until you drink let´s say 5 litres in different situations, but 1516 certainly looks good and will try to give an opinion soon as we wait for more expert drinkers on this. Also the picture didn´t make justice to the beer so i updated it with a proper head.

    Cheers!

In lieu of the Reinheitsgebot birthday celebration, many breweries (I've seen Warsteiner, Veltins, Weihenstephan) are coming out with a "Naturtrüb" edition... as I've mentioned before, when one has limited success with a beer, everyone jumps on the same party train.

Does that mean that we will shortly see German Brewers making breakfast cereal beers!?!

    Cheers!

I heard an Aecht Schlenkerla Schoko Müsli rauchbier, featuring a faux-wax Ritter Sport dipped neck, is on the way to the American market.

It is projected to be their #1 seller in that crowded space.
