Have had 3 Regals since Black Friday (4, if you count on tap) and all have been stellar.

Folks who are reporting infected bottles should be reviewing the beer so that the score starts reflecting these issues. I know a lot of people have probably already reviewed/rated past vintages but, if you have not reviewed BCBS before and you had what you know to be an infected bottle, please review it now. Even a 50 character blurb is better than silence and, if you have enough time to post on this forum, you have enough time to rate and do a quick review. Thanks.

Like yourself, JH, I have 10/21/15, 5 of them, and 2 of 10/6/15. I haven't heard talk of the 10/6 yet. All bought in the Brandon area. I suspect I may have some unpleasant beer, but, of course, I don't know. One thing for sure, this whole mess has taken the fun out of the whole hunt down, stand in line, pay big money, and wait to enjoy experience I have enjoyed in the past. My 2 BW ended up in the Plant City sewer system. Black Friday 2016 has a big question mark on it. I'm not angry or bitter. Just disappointed.

Isn't that explicitly against the spirit of reviews on this site?

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/how-to-review-a-beer.241156/

I'm all for sharing information and making sure people are aware of the problem. But forums are a much more effective place for discussions of infected or "off" beers. They sit on the front page of the site when they are active. And putting this kind of information in reviews just muddies the waters about the actual beer and what it tastes like when not unintentionally infected, and does so without really helping anyone--people aren't checking beer reviews to find out if a beer is infected. It makes no sense to "report" infections there for the same reason that the site doesn't have an entry for each vintage of a given beer.

This is an interesting subject. If GI ultimately states that there are no known infections/defects with BCBS, shouldn't the reviews be fair game?

Absolutely. If they say their product is untainted, it is open season.

Have had over a dozen regulars without incident. Have had 1-3 per month since November release. All were fine. Also, given some recent buzz on Prop 15, I opened one of those last week as well. Fine too. Sweet, yes, but definitely not off. Of course, only a focus group of one.

Still have a case of regular. Six other bottles we had were all good. Moved mine into fridge and plan to start drinking them ASAP.

Looks like it's time to break one of my bottles out. I just one of these in the fridge.

Purchased in the Syracuse, NY area.

Anyone reported any problems from bottles bought in NY?

This is really disappointing to say the least. I'm hoping it's not true, especially after drain pouring my coffee a few weeks back. All of my bottles were purchased in South Florida area and bottled on 10/21. I'm going to put one in the fridge to confirm. If all of my bottles end up being infected then I will fore sure be passing on BCBS next year.

Key phrase being "outside of the brewer's control". I believe preventing infections is totally in the brewers's control.

Your posts are usually well thought-out, but I 100% disagree here.

If a beer is infected this IS within the brewers control, & is neither against the rules nor the "spirit" of the rules. Yes, the discussion here will get more play & more visibility right now, but reviewing a beer that is bad is very, very important. Several times through thoughtful reviewers on this site I have avoided trading for or buying a beer because I've read multiple reports of the beer being "off" in one way or another.

Sometime in the future this thread will be dead & buried on page 36.

Reviews are forever & will continue to warn people that there is something (potentially) wrong with a beer.

But recognize you are not disagreeing with him but with an explicit request from the site owners. He's just pointing out that request and suggesting a viable alternative.

So really you should carry your objection over to starting a discussion of site policy/requests in one of those Site sub-forums where it can be seen by the policy/request makers.

not saying that this is the case but...

wouldn't mentioning infection be a great/scummy way for people to drink the beers in their possession, lower overall bottle counts in the wild, and increase the trading value of the existing bottles after infection whispers have been quashed a few months down the road

AND it seems like majority of the infection reports are coming out of Florida. maybe it's an isolated batch that was sent out that direction

That is incorrect. Here's the relevant portion:

    Don't Review Bad Beers
Not a beer that you simply don't like, but rather a beer you know to be spoiled due to reasons outside of the brewer's control. If you come across a beer like this, alert whoever you purchased it from and send a note to the brewer. Using a review to bitch about it won't help anyone.

"Bad" is defined as being "outside of the brewer's control". Infections are not outside of the brewer's control, as has already been noted on this page.

Actually whether off-flavors are "outside the brewer's control" is a subject of debate in more than one thread. More than one pro-brewer has chimed in to say that off-flavors are an inherent risk of having a barrel aging program. And since the off flavors can develop well after bottling and shipping, the only effective control to be totally sure it doesn't happen is to not have a barrel aging program.

So far all of my bottles (4 purchased on black friday, 6 purchased about a month later from a friend who found a case for sale) are dated the same, 10/20/2015, 13.7%, and they have been fine. I have given one bottle to a friend and he had no complaints.

The one I had on Sunday did taste a little sweeter than usual to me, however I was drinking it outside in 35 degree weather so I really think it was the low temperature affecting the flavor. Nothing tasted off/sour/vinegar/musty/metallic etc.

Now you've all made me paranoid so I'm going to have to crack another one either tonight or tomorrow  :sunglasses: and drink it warmer so I can be sure, since I plan to give a couple more away to people who've never had it in the coming months.
