I think you're right.... i'm guessing if you age your ale in bourbon barrels then you would probly want to taste the bourbon flavor... but that pretty much the opposite of what i want anything to taste like. I wasn't ready for it. I'll steer clear of the barrel aged stuff and save it for you guys... ill have a union jack.

I'm a huge FW Proprietor Series fan, but I had Sucaba 2015 earlier this week and thought it was more bourbon-forward than most of their stuff. I generally love FW Barrel Aging because they're really balanced, and this one wasn't so much. So I agree with you, but don't write them off entirely.

Try their Parabola or Anniversary beers. Those are really well balanced bourbon barrel aged beers.

Had a small pour of Parabola 16 when I was at Barrelworks. My first reaction was it was very good but not quite the blend of awesomeness that I thought 15 was. I was in a bit of a bad mood there because the service was awful and I haven't had the time to enjoy a full bottle yet to really fairly judge 16.

I totally get that, it is a big beer and maybe was too young when you had it. I'm sure it spent some extended aging in the barrels prior to release, but at 13% or so I'm sure this would really blow your mind after a couple of years. Keep trying barleywines and maybe you can revisit this in the future and really enjoy it. The same thing has happened to me a few times where I didnt' fully understand or appreciate what I was drinking. (sours mostly, but also hoppy beers.)

I live out in NC and FW Walker doesn't distribute out here. I have a laundry list of great trade bait if anyone would be interested in trading a couple bottles of Parabola for some other rare finds? PM me if interested.

On tap at bars, but highly likely gone at all stores in Chicago.

I think the KBS price is worse than the parabola!

On another note, sucaba '15 is tasting fantastic as usual. Been drinking one every few months. Brought it over to a friend who never had barley wine (let alone BA bw). She loved it.

It's crazy hard to find parabola in so-cal. Haven't seen it since the release weekend. Wasn't even it at barrel works last weekend!

Geez that is a lot for a single bottle of KBS compared to 4-pack prices in the city. Well good to know these are not completely gone further out in the chi burbs.

Yes - that is ridiculous. In April we had KBS prices at most places of $5.99/bottle and $22.49/4pk while Parabola was $16-$19/bottle. The guy admitted he knew he would still sell out at those prices.

I don't think Founders is cool with that, I'd report it.

Hitting Texas today... Got one and feel lucky. Most stores will be lucky to get a case.

Benefits of being a local to FW. Costco usually gets the vintage series and I make sure to stock up each time.

I wouldn't be surprised if FW worked out a deal with them to package without the boxes to keep cost down, either way works out great for us.
