Tired Hands (May 2016)

I'm thinking I may skip this release, however, I wouldn't be opposed to someone giving a line update when they get there. If there is still a good amount left this evening, I may swing by...

Have cans ever last to Friday? I'll be there in early June and planning a visit.

 

I believe that the helles was the only beer to last more than 2 days. I think there was a release on Friday once or twice but most are Wednesday or Thursday.

To those opening a can of Alien Church today, let it warm up a bit first. It improves significantly when it's not ice cold. I think their beers on tap are also served too cold.

 

I must say, this batch of Alien Church is probably the best they've ever released.

 

So I ended up missing Alien Church by about 20 mins (got there a little after 6). I think the case limit was too high but I wasn't that upset. Plenty of the Helles Lager still left as well as Ourison and Shambolic.

They also had a new blue IPA on tap which was the strangest looking beer I've ever seen.

 

How did it taste though?

 

It was strange...didn't even look like a beer. Looked like a weird college party drink where you just dump whatever random alcohol and juices into a bucket and this is what you end up with. Tasted okay though

 

This is the Alien Church batch I've been waiting for. Unmistakably Alien Church in every aspect with the added "umph" of beautiful long lingering bitterness. I think in 1-2 weeks, it would be just about perfect as it will get.

I know you didn't ask me, but I personally loved it. True to their "strange and beautiful" de facto motto. Color is unlike any IPA you will ever come across, purplish bluish tint. Interestingly enough, I've had the pleasure of trying out butterfly pea flower tea, which is blue when brewed, but turns completely purple when you squeeze a drop of lemon juice into it: http://www.bonappetit.com/drinks/non-alcoholic/article/butterfly-pea-flower-color-changing-tea . Didn't make the connection until I saw the color of the beer.

 

It was okay. Definitely tasted better than it looked. I tried to take a picture but it turned out more red. Even the bartender commented that the picture would turn out that way - something about the reflections. I did find this one on Untappd though that I think is a good representation.



The highlight of the night for me was the 06277. Had a nice bitter bite that reminded me of Pure Hoppiness.

I thought the blue IPA was borderline bad. Not only muddled but some really odd funky stuff going on, made me thing it might have been spiked with brett or something.

Alien Church is good stuff though.

 

I'm just here hoping they eventually drop Mrs. Pigman cans....

Or Oat Potion. That stuff is the shit.

 

Pigman would be great. Or Extra Knuckle (or Extra Extra Knuckle)...

 

I'm hoping for Pathway of Beauty. That was absolutely incredible and hasn't made a return since last August.
