Clown Shoes "Evil Crawfish" was named after a patron tried to order an "Eagle Claw Fist" and mispronounced it. Always thought that was funny and made for a great logo. Cheers!

Ballast Point was (if I remember correctly) named after a peninsula with a lighthouse near Point Loma (San Diego Harbor). The lighthouse that was torn down in the 60's.

There's a brewery over in Jersey located not far from a particular toll bridge over the river between Philly and Jersey. They call themselves Double Nickel Brewing and one of their beers is Buffalo Nickel.

The bridge they are located near was often used by truckers since the bridge typically has a lower toll that a neighboring bridge. At one time the bridge toll was a Nickel one way. So according to the brewery's story the truckers on their CB radios used to refer to that particular bridge as "Double Nickel Bridge."

Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham WA has a series of beers, the Galbraith Series, named after local mountain bike mecca Galbraith Mountain. Each beer in the series is named after a trail on Galby: Wonderland, Cedar Dust, Bunny Trails, Not Shawns, Safety Break, and Whoopsie Whoodle to name a few.

In the Pittsburg area there is a brewery known as "Church Brew Works." They are based in a restored building that was built as a church but was eventually closed because of changes in the demographics of the neighborhood where it is located.

Their active beer list includes: Celestial Gold; and Pipe Organ Pale Ale

In Seattle, Schooner Exact Brewing is named for the ship that carried the first white visitors into Puget Sound, and what would become Seattle. Their Brave Horse beer is for the Brave Horse Tavern in Seattle. The 3 Grid IPA is named for conflicting street plans that resulted in weird shaped city blocks. Gallant Maiden hefe is named for an old fishing/canning vessel that plied area waters. They have a lot of fun Seattle history behind their names, check 'em out: http://schoonerexact.com/

    I think
Jack's Abby's Lashes is named that because it's the color of one of the owners wives' eye lashes
Night Shift's Santelli is named after the highway they are located on.

The reason for beer names seems to be quite varied. Many are amusing, or historical, or whimsical, or just downright borderline sick.

None seem to be more perplexing to me that many of the names that 3 Floyds gives to their beers, and that has me curious. I know that a lot of the spirit of the brewery revolves around heavy metal music of which I am not a fan to be able to see that as a source in the naming of their beers. Here's their beer list: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/ Does anyone feel that selected lyrics from heavy metal might be the majority theme here?
