Barrel isn't real prominent. But the vanilla is solid with a good base beer. We liked it a lot. But if you want a strong bourbon presence this one doesn't have it.

not barrel aged but tried ursula's imperial pb&j porter, crustless, today - awesome stuff! the 13% abv is really well hidden and it is straight up pb&j in a glass. the regular version was good but this is a big step up.

call to arms has a ba baltic porter with coffee that is really tasty too - not much coffee but nice barrel character...ridiculous name (Shirtless Putin Nuzzling with Dolphins) but definitely worth trying

Easily my favorite beer name. EVER.
Tried this one at Rare Beer and found it to be pretty enjoyable- very little coffee, solid barrel presence, though the booze was evident. Would drink again if for no other reason than the name.

Imperial Crustless is every bit as good as Funky Buddha's No Crusts. That's definitely saying something if you like that flavor profile.
Ursula sold out of bottles at the brewery, but it should be hitting distro this week.

I was bummed they sold out so quick, but I was busy drinking Dry Dock Signature Series Raspberry Imperial Stout at their anniversary. Which is also pretty great.

The Dock's BA beers this year have been especially good. Looking forward to that one as the previous version was good, too.

Anyone know where the hell regular ass Death By Coconut is? Many states got their shipments weeks ago.

Which states? It was released at the Longmont & NC breweries merely 11 days ago.

Missouri, Michigan and a few others that are escaping my memory. Surprised it's appearing on out of state shelves first. I thought Colorado was cool.

Perhaps in this regard we are going the route of say, Founders? I know a lot of areas that get shipments of Founders releases weeks before they're available at the brewery or within Grand Rapids. Maybe a little annoying, but there will be PLENTY of DbC to go around once it hits.

Tried Mu Brewing Ba Angry Imp last night. Says aged 4 months in Woody Creek barrels. It had a strong bourbon which surprised me since it had such a short time in the barrel. The guy said they "conditioned" the barrel with Woody Creek first. I didn't get to ask as many questions as usual, so this may be off, but it sounded like they poured Woody Creek into the barrel to spruce it up first.
Going by other beers with this strong of a bourbon flavor right off, it tends to die off real quick. Without that bourbon, there wasn't much else there. I found the body of the beer to be super thin, no viscosity at all and it didn't come out with any of its own character.
I passed on a bottle, I should have asked how much anyway just to see if they were trying the $20 route like everyone else. Probably not though, they charged $8 for a 16oz pour.

It's not a stout, but I picked up a bottle of Tommyknockers BBA Nut Brown Ale last night. It was $8.99 for 500 mL, and was aged 15 months in Breck barrels. I thought it was pretty good. It was the first time I've bought anything from TK's in well over a decade, lol.

Do you recall if it was the imperial nut brown or the regular one? The regular one is sub 4.5%ABV, hence the question. I guess a 3rd option is the base beer for their Oak Aged Legend brown.
Ever since Breck's Q&A went in the toilet a few years ago I've been bringing the Tommyknocker mixed packs to non-beer parties and get togethers. Their stuff is honestly pretty good if you're just looking for a simple brew to knock back.

Not odd per se, but atypical, sure. 12 months is kind of the standard set by GI with BCBS, but it's certainly not a rule. Lots of brewers go for much shorter aging - notably NH with Dragon's Milk - and some go for much longer - see recent Medianoche releases, Fremont Ancient Ones, etc. It's all about what the brewer wants to impart in the beer, longer aging will definitely change the taste, for better or worse. The age of the barrels and how long it's been since they were emptied plays a big role in taste as well. So yeah, LOTS of reasons to age above 12 month (or under).
