Had a homebrew club meeting last night at Bad Weather and I have to say their beer has improved tremendously from when I first visited the tap room almost a year ago. I think I missed only one beer they had on tap and I didn't taste a bad beer all night. The blackberry brown ale was just OK but everything else was solid or well above average. They aren't doing anything terribly unique or following all the trends but they had a lot of well made and delicious beers that I could have drank all night long. Just a really well executed line up top to bottom. Favorites for me were hopcromancer IPA, calamity RIS, and ominous double brown but I was also surprised how much I enjoyed the ESB with Earl Grey tea and the Pub Ale, two styles I generally avoid. Cheers!
What beers did you have the last time you visited? Most of the beers you liked were available when they first opened. Like Badger Hill, their quality went way up after ditching Lucid and opening a facility of their own. The beers their head brewer has produced are much more interesting than everything they were previously bottling.
I don't recall since it has been a year or so since that last visit. I've always generally liked their beers I've had but I remembered on that particular tap room visit I noticed some off flavors and inconsistent product. Like I said it was shortly after they had opened their new space so it may have been due to challenges with new equipment or what have you. Either way I was hoping they'd be improved given the time elapsed and I was not disappointed last night. I think I sampled 9-10 beers last night and they were all solid to very good.
F everything about Lucid, seriously. I get pissed everytime I see their middle schooler-designed branding
To be fair I don't think it really had anything to do with Lucid. Bad Weather only had 1 fermenter in the Lucid space, seems pretty hard not to improve quickly once you move on to your own space with many more fermenters and equipment you can choose to customize to your own desires. But yes, F everything about Lucid for many reason not excluding this.
I actually brought this up them when I was there last month (they exceeded my expectations) and I remember them saying they already had it in the tanks when summit announced theirs.
Sorry, but that is not an ESB and the tea is not Earl Grey, so it is not even CLOSE to the same idea!
I love Bad Weather. They always seem to have new high quality taproom-only releases. I was in a few weeks ago before a Wild game- their Russian Imperial Stout was incredible. I talked to the manager and they have a BA scotch ale that is supposed to be ready in early 2017. And their new 40 barrel tanks will allow them to start putting some of those taproom releases into bars and coolers around town.
ominous double brown but I goldenslot was also surprised how much I enjoyed the ESB with Earl Grey tea and the Pub Ale, two styles I generally avoid.
I had the hopcromancer IPA the other night on tap and thought it was a good/above avg IPA. I wouldn't seek it out, but it's drinkable and I enjoyed it.
