Ok, another beer before the 51st annual Super Bowl, I decided to have an anniversary beer. Well, I decided it because I had few non-bomber, high ABV beers left, and the GF had just gotten this. I always love getting a pour that I feel I can GIF.

Victory 21st Anniversary IPA - one I was probably going to bypass, but the GF wanted to try. She made a good choice here, as I am on the high end of the ratings on this beer:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/345/263291/?ba=cjgiant#review

    Briefly (for me)...
I got a nice whiff of the hops as I was pouring this. It was a pleasant, yet classic nose. The pour is show above and below, but I always love a clear light golden pour. I initially rated it even higher as I liked the slightly orange-citrus but pithy hoppy ale that I was drinking. The hops faded slightly as I drank it down, and a little maltiness started to grab my attention. The hops flavors continued on, but the sweetness followed it as well, yielding a slight battle for my taste buds I'd have rather not been there.

Michael, Hopslam 2017 was not 100% my 'cup of tea' but I can see how others (e.g., you) would be excited about this year's release.

I was a bit surprised to read that @John_M was not a fan of Hopslam 2017: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/hopslam-2017.480601/page-4#post-5266352

    Cheers!

Good afternoon BA! Worked all day and I'm ready for a new brew, this one coming courtesy of @jeffgott , Carton Café y' Churro a coffee cream ale with vanilla and cinnamon. Cream ales, particularly coffee cream ales, are hit or miss for me. I tried the Caffé Corretto the other day which is a coffee cream ale with fennel anise and licorice, it was so intriguing I had to try it. And it was surprisingly delicious. So can this Churro variation stand up to it.

Pour is a bright orange amber, not quite clear, and a couple floaters. The head is one and a half fingers of off white foam, reduces to a halo after a couple minutes and leaves moderate lacing. Some alcohol legs.

Aroma is mostly coffee and cinnamon. A little vanilla and caramel come through in the background giving it a slightly sweet smell.

The taste leads with a big cinnamon bite, almost to the point of being spicy, then there is a tinge of coffee and vanilla, while it's quite sweet there is a pretty solid bitterness on the finish, almost like black French vanilla coffee.

The feel is thick and creamy with low to moderate carbonation. The 12% ABV is noticeable but not to hot.

Overall this one is feeling dominated by the cinnamon and a tinge sweet, making it seem a little gimmicky. It's by no means bad, it's definitely something I could get a craving for. Like a desert beer after a big feast. Though I preferred the Caffé Corretto, I'm kind of wishing a brewery up here would make something tasty like this.

    Cheers!
    Marc

Mandrina from Almanac. A tart farmhouse ale brewed with tangerines and oranges. Nice hazy yellow color good head. Getting just a slight tangerine/orange taste, more would be nicer. It does have a nice crisp bite, light and refreshing. Would be a great summer beer. Going to need some summer beers next week. Going golfing in St George Utah and Mesquite Nevada next week for 4 days/ 4 different fablous courses, can't wait!!! Will be nice to escape our waist deep snow here in Idaho!!!! R.I.P. Me too! It's pretty damn near perfect. It has so much of what I love about various stouts and almost nothing I don't like. Just a well-made, stouty whole.

I would love to have both of their Rum and Java BA Ten Fidy's. As long as they offer all of the extra flavors those names imply, and the incredible complexity and balance of BA Ten Fidy, I'd buy a box just to have one every year. Damn. With Oskar Blue's owning their own roaster, it's frankly a disappointment that they don't release more. They have access to sublime single origin beans, and can roast them extremely well. That's a combo that could knock out any huge coffee barrel aged stout in the industry, if done right.

Back for NB #2. This is Newburgh Brewing's Mega Boss, a 7% American IPA. I have a warm place in my heart for this brewery since my mother's family lived in the Newburgh area for generations. Mega Boss is nicely balanced. Nothing extraordinary but a refreshing local IPA. Here's my review:

    3.94/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Canned 1/19/2017. Poured into tulip glass. It pours a hazy, golden-honey color with one finger of bright white head and lacing with nice retention. The smell is rather malty with lemon, grapefruit, and floral hops. The taste features a malty base with grass and lots of citrus (lemon and a hint of orange/tangerine). The hops are pleasant and not overly bitter. It's nicely balanced. This ale is medium-bodied, with lively carbonation. At 7% ABV, you can really drink this stuff! Overall, it's a pleasant American IPA: it is not unique but it would be really refreshing on a hot day.

As always, I'm enjoying your reviews! Enjoy what's in your glass and enjoy the game!

Happy New Beer Super Bowl Sunday! I'm continuing my bock fest from last night, only with a straight Bock from Broken Bow in NY.

Unfortunately, this one misses the mark. It's shallow, sugary sweet, and dominated by caramel malts. The hop flavor is overdone as well. In a way I feel like I've had this before, in the form of too many bad brewpub attempts during the 90s. Somehow, when brewers screw up on a style like this it's always in the same way.

Oh well, it was worth the shot. I'm sure my next beer will be better...

To be honest, Jolly Russian smacked Pirate Bomb in the face. At least the bottle and draft I had of Jolly Russian shined way over my bottle of Pirate Bomb. I'd like to try Rum BA Ten Fidy. I'd be more excited to get a bottle of that then Pirate Bomb.

BCBS was one of the first stouts that I felt I was "eating" (a good thing for me). It was one of the first stouts I thought was absolutely incredible. But '16 BCBS left something to be desired. As long as BA Ten Fidy holds up next year, it may be the new "it" stout for me. Thankfully, I got another 3 cans of BA Ten Fidy for the next few year's even if BA Ten Fidy takes a decline.

Good afternoon and happy New Beer Super Bowl Sunday Sunday ! I'd like to start today with a welcome home @cavedave , and thanks for the intro. Great to see you dabbling over at WBAYDN these past few days. Alrighty, so...watching Star Wars with the kiddo and the Mrs., and as she is getting kicked in the ribs by future Baby Brau, I thought in my brain with a thick Scottish accent, "How can I get the rrrribs kicked outta me palate tahdeey? I know...With a weeeee heavy barrel aged Scotch ale!"

Courtesy of @FBarber ...again. Thanks Frank!

I was really excited when I saw this come in a porch bomb from this wonderful man. I've heard so much about how this may just be better than Backwoods Bastard by so many, and BB being one of my favorites, well I'm sure you can imagine my reaction to opening this up. OK, review time:

    Central Waters Brewing Company Inc.
    Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale
    Brewers Reserve

A: I poured this into one of my new pokal gems. Not a thistle, but I'm still on the hunt for my holy grail. Pours what looks like a deep dark brown, but actually when held up to light, exposes that it's the deepest tone of red mohagany. Brilliantly clear with a tightly knit tan head that stays well, resembling the head of an espresso.

A: Instantly bombarded with vanilla, caramel, molasses, vanilla, oak, bourbon, dark fruits, and did I mention vanilla?

T: Toffee right off the bat. I can't help but say figgy pudding, in a good way of course! Vanilla, caramel, and a touch of oak finishes it off. The oak dominantly stays in the aftertaste.

F: Rich, medium carbonation, full bodied, smooth, sticky, some alcohol warmth, and has a hint of a tannin like finish.

O: This is outstanding! Very well may be one of my favorite beers I've tried. Love the style, love bourbon barrel aged, and love the combo, and this one does not disappoint.

Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon!

My reaction to receiving Heady the first time was similar (a shriek).

Isn't it amazing how changing one letter in a sentence can take said sentence from celebratory to something a bit, um, bawdier?
