    Good Afternoon Folks,

I will be in the PDX/Eugene/Corvallis/Tillamook areas 3/10-3/18 for some college searching and beer drinking (of course.) My 14 year old son will be tagging along with me to some places (my mother will be coming as well).

I'm sure this has been asked and answered previously, BUT, what are some cool non-beer spots as well as cool brewpubs/restaurants (even breakfast spots) in the above areas that my son will not totally hate, and that I can love!

OP, what is your son into? We were all 14 once. I am assuming that you are currently based out of Long Beach. I am sure we can all help with non-beer stuff.

If he is at all into aviation there is a neat little air museum right beside de Garde in Tillamook. It's nothing too special, and not nearly as interesting as it used to be (from what I've gathered) but they have some cool aircraft and WWII gear. Plus, the building itself is quite impressive and has a very interesting history. Again, if he is into that sort of thing.

if this 14 year old is anything like all the other 14 year olds I see, WIFI for their phone/IPAD will be necessary. Fortunately 90% or portland establishments have you covered

If your kid likes video games, go check out Ground Kontrol. cool Arcade that serves craft beer. you can also re-live your glory days of PacMan and Joust

Grand Central Bowling is pretty sweet and right in the heart of about 5 of the best beer spots in portland (Growler Guys, loyal legion, Cascade, hair of the dog, Green Dragon).

Mt Hood is an hour out of Portland if you want to go ski or snowboard for the day.

If the weather is nice, 10 barrel has a sweet rooftop bar and there is a decent chance there will be ladies around ( i was 14 once)

The Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville is world class. It's comparable to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum for the quality and number of the airplanes in their collection, and includes the Spruce Goose. I'm not that familiar with the breweries nearby, but there are a lot of wineries in the area focused on Pinot Noirs. The museum is about 20-25 miles SW of Portland off Hwy 99W.

I never got to see the Spruce Goose when it was down here when I was kid. Glad I can finally see it as an adult - thank you for this!

I second the air museum in McMinnville and Heater Allen afterwards. OMSI is a good choice in PDX. They got a submarine. Powell's Books is a good place to get lost in.

Maybe I am just being nostalgic but Oregon has a great skateboard scene. The skateparks remind me of the 80s in CA. If your son is into skating then Burnside is a great place to visit (not sure if Mom would be into it though).

Get out into the woods or post up downtown and people watch. Both will give you a feel of what Oregon has to offer. Yin and Yang.

Pity he wasnt coming in the Summer..my daughter will be 14 and we like to go down the coast to The Oregon Dunes and sandboard..though good brewpubs are few and far between..though Florence isnt far from Eugene.
Sandboarding, kayaking then evening by the campfire cooking up a storm

I second the Powell's flagship on Burnside, one of the country's truly great bookstores. Long before I got into beer, it was my one indispensable stop whenever I visited Portland. After I got into beer, it still is.

If you, your son, and your mom cannot all find something to love there, then I'm afraid I can't help you.

If they don't like clams, cows, crabs and cheese, then I cannot help.
    Facts.
    Clams, cows, crabs, cheese (beer).

True. They may have alternative interests...

But just think of all they'd miss...

I would hope they've at least considered clams, cows, crabs, cheese.

    Edit: beer.
