Yea the guest taps definitely were below par last year, although I didnt stay all day I hadnt in years past either and still got some decent stuff

 

Yeah I'm sure 2015 rubbed many people the wrong way and with 2016 being even more miserable weather wise, hopefully that doesn't cause a doubling down of disinterest.

The change to a later date should hopefully temper some of those worries for the potential attending breweries.

Pours at Huna Day are 1-4 ounces

For regular brews, pours at DLD are in overflowing, full-sized solo cups. For very rare and barrel aged brews, pours are in 8oz, slightly more sturdy plastic cups.

I think this might also be another factor in how wildly wrecked some people get at this fest compared to Huna. Some of those full-sized solo cups are holding 9-13% DIPAs. And since you "paid" for it, depending on the year, you often feel obligated to finish it

 

By 11 in the morning, it is common to see people passed out, portopotties overflowing, and people in extreme states of disrepair. "Pace yourself" is practiced, except even by people who start at 7am. But overall, it's a beer festival, and 99% of the people are having a great time. And it will rain, because it almost always does.
I wish this site allowed related pics like it used to. The chain link fences become triage units.

Bring some interesting bottles from your region or rarities from your cellar, share and be prepared to be treated in kind. Be vigilant with your stash (read: bring a backpack and put your stuff in that and watch it like it's your first-born child). Other than that, come prepared for the weather, tempered expectations regarding guest taps, and a willingness to roll with whatever the day throws at you.

I don't believe it was that. In the past, most people I know did the bottle shares and avoided taps. Since last year they forced everyone to buy $40 of vouchers (built into ticket price) they should have sold a lot more drafts because people had to use up tickets they wouldn't otherwise have purchased in that quantity. So perhaps the result was to accommodate the influx of beer purchases they had to add a lot more quantity which diluted the pool of quality.

 

Weather in 2015 wasn't even that bad. Cold and rainy in the morning, warmed up a little bit and mostly stopped raining in the afternoon hours.

Wouldn't say it was pleasant, but it wasn't awful later in the day.

Can't speak for others, but my $40 in vouchers vaporized in the rain even sitting in my pocket. I only got to use a couple of them.

I am probably mistaken, but I thought they stopped allowing posting of pics if they were not in the context of the conversation (vs deleting old ones). And you are correct about the memes.
Nothing is better than post-DLD pics. I think it's because the last pic I remember seeing was of a guy halfway in a garbage can.

Guy in garbage best sums up the Trainwreck photo award. Who can beat that this year? He didn't let Paramedics tap him out...or did he? I remember seeing a gurney going onto those rocks in the far band tent after 5:00pm last year.

 

Only time I've actually witnessed real DLD history live. Felt bad for the guy.

My god. This literally sounds like the worst beer event ever. Surprised people still die to go to this thing. I guess the chance at a vanilla whale that can be traded for anything on earth is the big draw. Lord knows that garbage base beer sure isn't. And you have to pay for food and drinks all day now on top of the $180 entrance fee? I cannot imagine ever wanting to attend this crapfest.

 

This is why I love the DLD thread so much more than the Huna thread--the new scene in Florida makes for some emotionally defensive homers that just can't handle any negativity or sarcasm whatsoever. Here...it's just another normal post
