If Dark Lord hit distro at $24.99 how long would it sit on shelves?

    Earlier this year, opened a full vertical (04-16). Now have 1-2012, 3-2013, 2-2014, 2-2015, 4-2016.

I agree with the 5-6 year age range as the sweet spot.

I'd say maybe a couple weeks on the less trafficked shelves in Chicago (if there is such a thing).

Anywhere else, it would not sit at all.

Its like how many licks to the center of a tootsie pop. The world may never know.

There are a ton of casual craft beer people that would grab it immediately. Most of my beer friends don't chase releases, so it still gets a solid reaction when I bring one.

Now after a year or two, the hype would probably die a bit. Not all of those people will chase it again.

Only after a year or two, for a once a year release? People still gobble up things like Hopslam and KBS pretty nearly instantaneously, even though plenty of breweries, local and national, are putting tons of similar or better beers of the same style on shelves or on tap every day.

Fair point, though I'm assuming FFF's normal distribution footprint. I would also say that Dark Lord is a bit more, let's say, "divisive" than those beers.

I checked my cellar spreadsheet, 15 regular DL bottles total from 2012 on. Only one bottle of 2012 & 2014 so I guess I'm hoping for those (or older, not that I think there is a chance of that).

Some pre 2012 bottles are fine, but it depends on how they were stored and they may be a bit of a gamble.

2012 itself is one of the worst IMO.

I had a 2011 late last year and it was incredible. Easily the best non-variant DL I've ever had.

I have managed to hold back at least one bottle from each year I have attended. '14 was my first year and you could still buy vintages that year. I have a '12 - '16 vert and will be in attendance this year. Last year I was group D and got '16 De Muerte which I thought was solid. I was a bit unsure of some of the wine barrel variants as well. I guess we will see how far the variants go this year.

As a group E guy this year, I just hope they don't hold strictly to their word: "2 bottles of vintage DL once the variants run out."
If cardamom is forced on me rather than two bottles of last years DL, I will not be a happy camper.

I have zero dark lords in the cellar. I'm not a big fan of the regular beer and always trade it away. I basically built up my vintage Bourbon county collection by trading a bottle for a sizer of BCS every year it was in 12oz bottles.

I do give my buddy a bottle every year though, and I think we've only cracked one bottle. Right now he's got one bottle of 2012-16 (soon to be 17)
