Wow, the modern AI is exceptional at predicting not only the weather, but analysis and predictive news writing:
Large variable weather give way to ideal tornado formation conditions leading to The Great Dark Lord Massacre of '17: "The streets ran black with beer and the lone surviving 2017 bottle of VBDL went for $10,000 on the secondary market. Due to the tragic nature of the festival, for the first time in recorded history, no beer geeks complained."

I have only 2016 stashed away. Last year was my first DLD. I've had '14 in the bottle also. Overall I've had '13-'16 on tap. '17 up next.

I'm expecting it to be like most dark lord days and not have rain.

Only the last 2 years have been gross. Most previous years have had ok to great weather.

You would be able to buy 10 year verts any day of the week

Figures it's the two years that I've gone to DLD. Let's see if my (bad) luck with weather continues.

I doubt that, but would depend on number of bottles released each year and if released on single day or constantly released throughout the year.

But let's say it's released on one day and in number of bottles currently distributed to DLD attendees...even though it's not at the top of its beer style, it still carries quite a historical brand recognition. If nothing else, people would scoop them up and trade them. Ive never had an issue trading away regular DL, no matter what people say about quality or large number of bottles released during DLD.

And doesn't Darkness disappear from shelves pretty quickly at a price that is just a couple bucks cheaper than what the OP hypothesized for DL? Considering DL has a much larger "local" recognition to it, I also think it would go off shelves pretty quickly. But, it does obviously depend on the number of bottles released.

It would fly off the shelves. people line up for a freaking IPA in Elk Grove village and zombie dust in Munster.

Dark lord has arguably the best name brand recognition of any "premium bottle" craft beer in the country.

Why would all of the DL pre-2012 be bad?

'06-'08 were all good to my recollection, as was 2011. I don't know whether a 2006 would still be holding up these days, but I'd be happy to check in the interest of science.

I've heard reports from a few people that the some of the years pre 2012 are just like drinking sludge at this point. I just through it out there as some of these bottles are risky selections, but probably much less risky then whatever crap they throw in a wine barrel with DL.

I drank 04-2015 last year the night before DLD.

04 was the only one I would go so far as to say was outright bad/undrinkable. Several were "past their prime", but I wouldn't go so far as to call them "risky selections"

Did 06-2016 last year, and I thought they were all surprisingly drinkable. 2010 and 2011 were still great. 2011 in particular was fantastic.

When squaring off with the Dark Lord smart beer geeks regularly fill their stomachs at the food tent, the foolish beer geeks buys the tacos, eats one, and saves two- one to trade and one to age.

For the sake of small talk until variants are released.. how many vouchers are you guys buying?

I figure I will get 14. Four for food. 10 for beer. Last year was nice because everyone was giving away vouchers so I ended up with about 16 and used them all.

Yeah, I'd find a bunch of them on the ground during the day. When I left I hit up the guest draft tent and used them on random beers I never would try. Took a sip of each to see how they were and then asked random strangers if they wanted to try them.

I'll probably bring $100 to spend on merch and vouchers and just see where the day takes me.

Do we know the pricing yet? No, right?

I didn't even use all of my $40 worth last year, so I'm kinda digging the pay as you go thing unless I get involved in some good shares.
