I totally understand why people line up. I just don't understand why you would do it.

If you line up early(like all day for group d early), you're basically saying you're attending the event for the variant, and everything else is secondary.

I for one, will attend the event, get either 5 or 6 bottles of beer, and have a great time.

What type of lanyard did you use to put it through the handle on the mini mason jars?

And the amazing thing is its really not that hard. Hunahpu figured it out, and it's now a world class event.

Considering last year's taps were crap, and the lines for variants this year seem like they will be endless unless FFF changes it to random bags, I'd have no problem saying I went to the fest for the variant, since there will be plenty of sharing in those lines.

I agree, I was not a fan of DPB. I can't believe that it would be an improvement over last year's Ronaldo or FVM. I never tasted FVM, but Ronaldo was much less pruney flavored than DPB, to great benefit. I can't imagine the addition of heavy thick prune syrup flavor in FVM or Ronaldo will be a positive. That once-ever Armagnac treatment of FVM just made that puppy skyrocket in value, for me and I'm sure others as well. Dammit.

I've had similar issues with the s&p mason jars, so last year I put a bunch of electrical tape around the handle....enough so that the clip was essentially in a fixed position and the glasses didn't tilt to the side. worked well.

Being Group B this changes nothing for me.... I had planned on getting in my group line early, and I still do.... Hopefully I'll get my allotment @ 11:00-11:30 and then enjoy the festivities afterwards.

    Group B FTW!!!

I am a bit concerned about this. I also tried DPB last year, and it was so sweet I almost licked the dirt to get the taste out of my mouth like Homer in the Brazil episode.

FVM was sweet last year, but not disgustingly so. I think the armagnac and coffee cut it a bit to make it more balanced than regular DL.

I'm less worried about Ronaldo because it was already in Madeira last year.

The Madeira treatment isn't drastically different than Moscat, but it is far more complex, and usually less sweet. One of the best barrel aged beers I've ever had was aged in Madeira barrels--Trousseau.

Ultimately I really don't think wine barrels work with Dark Lord, I don't know why they keep doing it.

Try telling that to my wife, my mother, and my mother in law. There are not enough days to even dedicate each one a day of recognition on that weekend for what they expect. Some of you might be able to get around Mother's day but there are a lot of us who have expectations from the wife and family this weekend.

Never move up for a QB in the draft, more often than not they wash and then you've also given up a bunch a picks. No way both Goff AND Wentz pan out. Look at how much was given up for RG3. Best to trade down and get a QB in mid 1st round as it is a dice roll. That being said, Bears liked Trubisky (has most important traits in a QB- quick decision, can read defenses, goes through progressions, decent arm and is accurate) and he has best chance of succeeding based on that. Next best QB is Nathan Peterman who will be a steal in a few more rounds. Bears at 3 obviously got enough inquiries about trading up from other teams that they were worried some of those folks might jump them by trading with the 49ers.

I hate being forced to line-up early. I'm fine with whatever variant, but I don't want vintage...

Really? I have a hard time believing that they just up and randomly decided to change how they've handled the system for the better part of a decade without any foresight or preparations. They've had a professional event company for a while now - surely they actually looked things over and had discussions beforehand. Regardless, even if it is the "FFF way" to be unpredictable, it's crappy of them not to be more transparent.

I wonder if not having enough variants for everyone caused the change to equal allotments for each group?

They knew Group E would've been fucked with vintages in the old system, so this is the only fair way to handle it fairly. Sounds like they're kind of a victim of their own success and assumed they'd make enough variants for everyone going forward, and now that they can't this is the best way to keep it fair.

    Oh, I agree.

However, I think the second tier, mid 1st round QB is a complete waste of a pick. How many guys that were picked 8-20 have ever panned out? Sure there have been busts at the top, but there's also been successes. It just seems like the mid 1st round QB, never works. It seems the best case scenario is Blaine Gabbert. You're better off taking a flyer in the other rounds with an accomplished starter at a smaller school

    Now. Back to DLD.

I'm still not 100 percent convinced we're not reading too much into this, and it's going to be similar to last year.

I agree with everything you said except for the never move up for a QB part. It is the most important position in all of pro sports. If you really feel strongly about a QB you go get him. I just think they gave up too much to move up one spot. However, I'm not a GM of a pro football team. I'm gonna assume they know a bit more than me about this, at least I really hope so.

Could be the lawyers... if you put up that the cost involves a variant bottle... variants need to be at each session. No one will ever know if the allotments are truly the same for each session however.

That's probably the case. Although, FFF has never seemed to really "care."

    BREAKING NEWS:
FFF CARES AND MAKES VARIANTS EQUALLY AVAILABLE TO MOST!

I'd hardly call them a victim of their own success. They've been brewing Dark Lord and other barrel aged beers long enough and doing DLD long enough to have a pretty clear picture of how much they need to make.
