    Happy NBS fellow BA's.
I'm trying this one from Springdale Barrel Room
    [IMG]

It poured dark chocolate brown with sa decent tan head that went away fairly fast
The aroma of this stout was a bit different. It had a roasted coffee bean smell but to me it had an almost identical smell that Duval's Tripel has, same hops maybe?
Mouth feel was light carbonation and slightly dry
Taste came through as mainly roasted coffee and hops and slightly chocolate on the back end. No alcohol taste to speak of.
Overall not a bad stout, just kind of a middle of the road breakfast stout.

Ok, onto another new to the BA world beer: BOFT IPA. if you haven't been following my journey today, BOFT stands for Barrel Oak Farm Taproom. I'm sort of using NBS as my tasting notes, since the winery/farm brewery needs approval to be added.

I was talking with our friend who was one a member of the winery until last year. She asked my opinion of the beer, and I basically answered as I did in my first post from here today. She said the wine this place was putting out took some time to develop, as well, which is not surprising.

So, the beer that I described as a hoppy APA in that previous post after a sample will get more of my attention now.

First off, this is actually more bitter than I perceived in that smaller pour.

It's a murky orange that allo s me to see shadows of my fingers through it. A tightly formed ring of off-white head has a few atolls on the surface, but mainly provides a stream of lace here and there.

Nose has a light grainy note to it, but is really quite pithy bitter. A generic citrus - more orange pulp and rind note pretty much sums the nose up.

Taste starts with that citrusy note, and turns towards the bitter fairly quickly. I will formally retract my thought of this being a "slightly hoppy pale ale." This thing is very grapefruit pith bitter and dry, with a bit of spicy pine bite. West Coast IPA is where this fits, specifically PNW, per my experience. Medium body and a nice carbonation level.

I've turned a corner on this beer. It's definitely an IPA. It's a bit raw, and i think every one of the 60 IBUs can be felt. I might like a little more balance, bit this thing keeps growing on me. Maybe a slight bit of rooting for the new guy, but I'd probably peg this at near 3.9.

I made it there yesterday afternoon to have a few, grab some more Eye of Newt and fill up some growlers. It was pretty hopping there, too, with a lot of out of state plates in the parking lot. And it seemed like everyone was ordering up flights- so many that they kept running out of mini snifters at the bar. That unfortunately annoyed sister who wanted to taste something before ordering a whole glass, but I just advised her to "get the Freak Tractor, you'll love it". She did, and she did . Other hits among my small group were the Black Lager (they're just killing it with that beer) and the Ball Lightning Pilsner, nicely aromatic, dry and bitter. Personally, I also loved the Grisette, which is super tart and funky, but it didn't strike the family the right way.

Anyway, maybe you'll dig it better on a quieter weekend. There's a lot of stuff that should be up your alley, and it's really great to see beers of this quality coming from that part of the state. Here's hoping the weekend is going well otherwise. Cheers!

Yes, poor wording on my part - meant to indicate you hate coconut, not the beer, which I think you gave more than a fair shake, considering. Where's your new beer?

Edit: and when you heading back? I have a whole vertical of 120 Minute awaiting us

Uh oh!! Let's be careful about starting a religious war about flights on NBS :grinning:

Wow, a 120 vertical sounds awesome. Time to find a reason to travel back!

I just finished a Leinenkugel's Watermelon Shandy, but it's at the pool out of a can, so I won't review it. They're the only ones out of the mix pack my wife hated. (I understand why ) But I'm not above having one at the pool!

I have a couple IPAs in my fridge from @oach, including one from Perennial, so those will likely make an appearance later tonight.

Hello everyone! My next new brew of the day was Falls City's Subtle Beast Imperial Stout: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22779/270612/?ba=bluejacket74#review

I thought it was a good brew, definitely more of a bitter/roasty imperial stout than it was a sweet one. I liked it, and it's a brew that I'd like to see again in the future! I'm still debating whether or not to have another new beer. If I do, I'll make sure to post it on here!

I respectfully remove my cap today in honor of tomorrow's solemn holiday honoring those that paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom. Thank you @lordofthewiens for the history lesson to set the tone.

On to a beer after a busy weekend of travel and parties. I recently purchased this bomber of Mother of Dreadnaught at Three Floyd's. It's dated 5-9-17 and I'm breaking out the old Teku glass for the occasion.

It pours a dark orange with a slight brown tint leaving a generous two fingers of creamy white foam behind. It settles very slowly revealing heavy lacing. The smell is caramel malt forward with grapefruit, some pine and musty wood. Taste is sweet malt, orange zest, grapefruit and oak. The feel is slick and creamy with a bitter dry finish.

I was a fan of Dreadnaught back in the day but rarely drink it anymore because I find it too malty for my palate now. Curiosity compelled me to give this a whirl. It's very creamy and quite drinkable but lacking in barrel profile. I'm tasting all musty oak and zero booze. I recently had Doom and Brother Hezekiah from Greenbush that I found more enjoyable. My score is 3.88 / rDev-3.2%.

Just finished watching the exciting finish to the Indy 500. Congrats to Takuma Sato on becoming the first Japanese born driver to win the race. I'll probably walk over to my bro's soon to crack a couple next. Cheers, I leave you with the official scorecard......

Happy Memorial Day weekend NBS players. A pretty nice day here on the island so far. Sunny with a slight breeze. Ran a few errands earlier today and now I'm happy to not have to go anywhere until tomorrow. Taking it pretty easy today on the drinking as well after getting at it pretty good yesterday.

My new beer today is Ultra Modern American, a double dry hopped pale ale, from Common Roots brewing. The brew checks in at 5.8% with no apparent canning date.

The pour yields a straw yellow color with a slight haze to it. A good amount of carbonation with a lingering white head. Spicy, bitter, and tangy hops really hit on the first few sips. A lightly bitter flow and finish as well. A good amount of citrus fruit notes with lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Additional flavor notes of pine and a sort of spicy/peppery flavor. The mouth feel is light/moderate. It has that sort of white wine feel to it. Not nearly as juicy as I expected it to be but with more of a raw hop feel to it. It's very flavorful for the abv and seems to drink slightly bigger.

Overall, I wouldn't say I love it but it's a decent drinking sessionable brew. It's very hop forward and the malt is rather absent for a pale. I guess that I'm in the 3.5- to a high of 4 on the taste.

I've had similar experiences. I remember practically writing off an APA that I felt showed nothing in the nose, and very weak flavors, when I tried a 4 oz sample. Later a buddy handed me his beer cuz it was "too dark and strong" for him. Turned out it was the same APA I had dismissed. It was very well crafted. My friend, years later developed an appreciation for more, shall we say, well-crafted beers.

Happy pre Memorial Day holiday to everyone, thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us started and for reminding us why we are able to gather here and enjoy these wonderful beers today.

Today I am getting started with a beer from Olde Hickory it is Cubano Walker a nitro barleywine aged on Spanish Cedar. Clocking it at 10% ABV I have been excited to try this, I am a big barleywine fan and wanted to see how this holds up. I have to say the aroma may have been the best part of this beer and of course the appearance with it being a nitro they look cool. i just don't think I am a huge fan and I think the nitro is why. I just don't like the feel and I can't be for sure but the flavor just seems subdued or watered down.I was a little disappointed especially since this was $22 a four pack!! Oh well I am glad I got to try it and I will say they did an excellent job making the alcohol!! Cheers everyone.

Appearance 4 - Pours almost a deep reddish brown color with nice tan head. No lacing.

Aroma 4 - The cedar seems to be coming out nicely, there is a sweet chocolate smell, vanilla and toffee with a touch of dark fruit.

Taste 3.75 - The cedar is a little more subdued in the flavor. The chocolate and plum/raisin a little more. The cedar makes another appearance on the finish.

Feel 3.5 - I am not sure I like the nitro on this beer. It does give it a smooth velvet feel but it almost feels watered down. Just a hit of warming finish from the alcohol.

Overall 3.8 - This is a unique beer the aroma is very nice the taste and feel seem watered down. I think I would like this better had it not been nitro.
