DC/MD/NoVA Beer Updates (2017)

I've never heard of Finback leaving NYC and even in my numerous trips to NYC I haven't seen Sand City other than for draft pours. With that being said I was in the Sand City tasting room on Saturday and it was really enjoyable, nice beach bar kind of vibs, and they had some superb IPAs on draft.

Touche, looks like there is some MA distro in there. Would love to see their stuff in DC more. Their IPAs are awesome.

 

Red Apron Burger Bar had a few Finback beers on tap a few weeks ago, Faster Than Light Bourbon BA and Rye BA. They may have been leftover from CBC week, but it was surprising to see them that long after CBC was over. It would be awesome if DC (or at least NRG) is going to start getting Finback regularly.

I was surprised at how much stuff was left over at various places.

 

Checked out TW Laurel today after seeing other MD TW's got VR. That place was bad and is now abysmal. The special release/seasonal beer section is full of mostly 6 packs now. I asked about GI and nothing doing although I suspect if any did show up, the employees might have gobbled them up as they did the 6 bottles of Weller.

 

I heard about this elsewhere but didn't realize MD got a drop. So there were in fact VR and other bottles dropped? Was it just at Total Wine locations?

TW Laurel had VR last Wednesday and Thursday along with the most recent coffee and regular on (at least) Wednesday.

 

Well I'm glad to be proven wrong, it gives me hope that TW Laurel isn't as bad as I thought

 

I live a few minutes from TW Laurel so I'm over there a fair amount. They get a lot of stuff, but most of the staff is clueless on releases/shipments/availability. I once asked if they had any BA Narwhal. They said no. As I was walking out, I saw an entire case sitting in the storage area above the beer that is out for sale. I got someone to get me a couple bottles out of the case and I learned most of the people there know nothing about beer. So you're mostly right - the place mostly sucks.

 

I feel I read and try to keep up with what is happening in the beer world but if it weren't for this post I would not have even known about this. I feel there is just a secret society of beer people that will always be two steps ahead haha and they win the VR.

 

Adam Goodwin (former Trillium, Tired Hands, Cisco brewer) has been putting out some quality fluids @ CTF; some kegs are leaking into DC
