Meh. Still not sure how I feel about this one. I mean, I won't knock it until I try it, but it's the trying it that I'm not sure about.

Heard its going to be dry hopped after being aged in barrels.

Has to be better than Frootwood or Doom, right? Right?

Not necessarily. I haven't had yet Doom yet, though, so I'll give that the benefit of the doubt.

If you're an IPA fan then you'll like it, unless you're expecting to actually taste the bourbon barrel.

I do like IPAs. My greatest fears are that it will be cloying, syrupy, and harshly boozy.

I found it slightly sweet, appropriately bitter for an IPA, a bit piney, not much barrel. You'll probably like it.

Doom? It's none of those things. Some sweetness with the bourbon but it is well in check. The alcohol is hardly noticeable - which can be awful dangerous.

I'd put Doom in the same sub category as DFH Burton Baton and Squall ( if you've ever had either). But I rated Doom slightly higher.

Unfortunately, no, haven't had, either. I was expecting maybe a 120 Minute sort of vibe, but honestly I have no idea what to expect.

I've heard a few people say this but I have also heard people in the other camp, myself included, say that the barrel is actually very noticeable. I could absolutely taste (and smell) the heat from the bourbon. In fact, I thought that beyond the big floral hop bouquet on the nose, it was the most noticeable part of the beer.

I saw similar observations - both ways - on Koz, Frootwood, and even KBS. Barrel taste might vary from batch to batch depending on how much bourbon was left in each individual barrel - but more likely it is the varying taste sensitivities of individuals. It certainly can depend on temperature also - warming brings out barrel taste.

I got plenty of whiskey in the aroma and flavors of Doom.

When I tried Doom I thought it was malty and slightly oaky bourbony with a little floral piney bitterness. I would like some more citrusy or tropical fruit flavors, though it was still good. I'll have to try again soon.

I have a question... At the time malt liquor was big, the controversy was it was a higher ABV beer being marketed to communities that already had an alcohol problem (at least, that is what I remember). IOW, it seemed to be merely a higher ABV beer.

Given that by today's craft beer standards, the ABV of Colt 45 et al is not all that high, what is unique about a "malt liquor"? Is it just an "Imperial" AAL?

I think I am going to sit this one out. Didn't care for Frootwood and I was in the Doom camp of needs more cowbell, I mean, needs more barrel. And considering that people are making it seem like CBS is coming, I will hold my breath for that.

Apparently distributors have been told CBS is coming. Hopefully quantity is decent.

Pretty sure the only shot at getting any will be waiting 12 hours outside the very few liquor stores that don't save it all for employees. Founders is in damn near every state, which will likely make this the most sought after wide release beer of all time.

I know 3 store owners/managers that will hold at least one bottle for me, if they get any.

I'm not an IPA fan but I thought it was pretty interesting stuff. A bit of barrel and maltiness to balance out the hops.

Which part of PA? I found it fairly easily in Philly. And where is KBS lying around?!
