This thread is about the Melvin location in Bellingham, WA, about 950 miles from your buddy. You're gonna get a much better response for Jackson Hole in the Mountain forum.

Yeah all of the rotating IIPA's. Lambda is amazing, but after that 2x4 is my favorite. All are great but different.

Went recently (last night). Place was busy on a Sunday evening of a long weekend, but not so busy we couldn't get a table. I liked the vibe, appreciate that one side is adults only and the other family allowed. The kung fu movies on the screens were awesome, although one had a sex scene with visible boobs which was quite hilarious in the family section (hint: we all survived). Nice to be able to take home crowlers, lots of packaged product.

Food - reasonably priced and just plain awesome stuff. Everything was excellent.

Beer - all their hoppy beers are great, but the prices are iffy. Our 4 x 4or5oz taster tray was $12, total ripoff. Same price as a 4pack of beer. Some glasses were reasonable at $5 and the crowler was $11 for their DAF. 6 or 7 decent guest taps too.

Would go back again, just would not bother with a taster tray ever again.

Man, you and I have very different definitions of "reasonably priced". A $20 burger? They are one of the priciest restaurants in town.

I'm always surprised at how expensive food is in Bellingham tbh. Just look at Greenes pizza.

Anyways, awesome to get fresh Melvin packs $2 cheaper at Haggens a couple blocks from the new taproom lol.

Right? I like Greenes, but, damn, I just don't get their food pricing. Even La Fiamma is charging $5 a slice out of their walk-up window, and GC seems like they're trying to make that seem like a bargain. That said, check out Rock & Rye, top shelf food at reasonable prices, and their Wednesday special is a 10oz steak and a pint for $15. We're not a "cheap" town, but, as a college town, there are bargains to be had.

BTW, I hope you've got 11/18 on your radar. Be happy to see you again. And, I might be jonesin' for some Brassneck.

I quite enjoyed Melvin initially, but have been put off since. There's no local vibe at all, and with the trucker hats, logo`d shirts, soundtrack, Kung Fu films and such it feels like you could be anywhere USA. I hate to say it but it reminds me of a trendier version of Friday's. Nothing about the place says 'Bellingham' or even Washington.
I dislike the beer prices as well, and I know people will disagree but I don't like not being allowed a pint. The food is also a miss for me. Fish and chips tasted gummy, like frozen fish, and the wings were slightly less than mediocre. As someone less than two blocks away this is a place I wish I loved, but I'd much rather visit locations further away.
With that said I've always had great service there, and I appreciate the lengths they've gone to coach their staff and hire folks who embody their vision of service. They get an A from me there.

Splitting hairs but isn't the most expensive burger $16? Was going to check them out today but the little guy wasn't looking conductive to a 2 hour drive to Bellingham..

It's also worth the $16 price tag.

Couple at $16, before sales tax (which is just under 9% here), round it off to $18,actual price paid. Listening to crappy rap does not put me in the mood to spend almost $20 on a freaking burger.

Man, As a new brewery and taproom and a guy who loves music, MUSIC is so freaking tough to get right. It's ALWAYS either too loud or not loud enough and with a mix of 21 year old Soldiers and 70 year old retirees I struggle with what I play. Started with old Andrews Sisters Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy stuff but that got old FAST! Some days im in the mood for Cypress Hill but I doubt anyone else is. It is one heck of an unexpected difficult detail to get right.

I beertended at a music venue here, and policy was to only play folks who had played, or were scheduled to play, our bar. I'd be playing an awesome CD, that no one in the had heard before, and someone would ask for a mainstream performer. All I could do was say "well, this sorta in that genre". At least Melvin has committed to playing the Wu Tang. Ya know what to expect. Much as I love Buck Owens, I'd never institute a "Buck Only" policy. Don't seem to be hurting their traffic none.

"80's rock (Keith Richards, Clapton, etc) my first love but I like Country, Classical, just about anything. But rap? Sparingly. Anything pairs well with beer. And @Reidrover it won't change

Anybody have any info on what's gonna happen with Melvin Brewing Company in Oregon? They were being distributed by GDI before that company got swallowed up by Columbia Distributing. However as of today, from what I understand, no one picked them up!
