Goose IPA. It's good I can now get my IPA/hops fix at a reasonable price and on the shelves...

    Cheers.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday. Not much going on today, relaxing after a busy work week. I may drive out to one of my favorite beer stores later on, they got a bunch of new beers in yesterday that I wanted to check out.

    Beer this morning:

Haven't had this is in a long time, not been able to find it fresh until recently. This is a fantastic session IPA! Just as great as I remember. Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, lightly toasted bread malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, grassy, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Light-medium bodied; balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Touch of resins and increasing dryness, never astringent. Fairly crisp and completely refreshing. I always felt like this was one of the best session IPAs. There is a lot of flavor and a nice amount of body vs others I have had. Will definitely seek out a full 6 pack of fresh stuff. I grabbed this single last weekend.

2016 is tasting fantastic! Intense flavors of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and pine hops; with raisin, plum, date, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Large sized pine, rind, grassy, spicy bitterness. Medium-full bodied; balanced bready creaminess and sticky/resinous hops in the mouthfeel. Quickly increasing resin dryness, a touch of hop astringency. This is one of the most aggressive American Barleywines out there, but I always love it. I have a better time finding this with age, did not see it fresh at all this year. Perhaps next year. I haven't had it fresh in over 5 years probably. Will make a point to find a fresh pack when it comes around again.

Awesome as always. November 2016 batch. Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pine hops; with moderate caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted oak, light vanilla/toffee malt sweetness; and floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness and oak spice on the finish. Medium-full bodied and creamy; with some light hop stickiness and slickness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing bitter/tannic oak dryness. Mildly warming 10%. I've had this fresh and well aged. I'd take em either way for different reasons. Always delicious.

This is insane! Flavors of huge nutty dark roasted coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, biscuit, dark bread, and molasses; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, and herbal/spicy hops. Light-moderate roast/char/coffee bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spice on the finish. Very full bodied; creamy, silky, velvety, rich mouthfeel; with some light sticky/chalky roast and oak tannins. Lightly increasing roast/char and bourbon/oak tannin dryness. Super smooth sipper, mildly warming 12.8%. No barrel booze, amazing barrel balance. I'd put this just above the base beer overall. There seems to be additional complexity going on, probably from barrel aging the coffee. Possibly better coffee sourcing than I've had in the base beer too. Thicker/silkier body than I have had with the base beer as well. Mind blowing amazing. Hope they release it again this year. This is at the 9 month mark on age.

Good morning BAs! Well, it's supposed to rain this morning so I won't be up on a ladder chipping paint until this afternoon; therefore, it's Return of the New Breakfast Beer. Today's selection is the most recent incarnation of:

Seems a little harsher than previous versions - I won't be buying a case of this year's as I have some past versions.

A Grodziskie/Gratzer beer (which in my opinion should be a style of its own here at BA and not simply put under "smoked beers") made by a collaboration between Dutch Jopen and Germany's The Monarchy.

Jopen / The Monarchy - Gratzer

Very glad to hear that this is already tasting good after, what, 20 months post-bottling? I have 3-4 of them in the cellar and was deliberating when to crack one open.

How fresh do you get this in EU?

Every time you post it it makes me want to go pick some up. They make great beer but I haven't had one in quite a while. Their Belgian IPA especially!
