Not by choice. Not 100% on all the details but more or less the County/Fire Marshal changed their mind on the fire code for how many people were allowed in the building at once. County said one thing, Fire Marshall said another; lower number won. Rumor-mill suggested complaining neighbors contributed to the change. Couldn't comment on that. But they had to totally change their business model until they can open up doors elsewhere or resolve the capacity limit. Crazy that the city is putting them through this and not working with them. I think they can only have 20 people inside that building with the current code they are enforcing.

Wow that sucks. I'm about 90 min from them and now debating on if I wanna make the drive if I can't hang out and have a few beers on tap while buying some cans. Going for 5 minutes buying cans without trying the beer (even though I'm sure Id love it regardless) and then leaving doesn't interest me nearly as much.

I wouldn't be so sure you'd love it. Imo, Aslin is extremely hit-or-miss, and they have QC problems even when the beer is good. People are reporting that they have to dump the last 4oz of their Neutrino cans because its all thick sediment. I think they're coasting on being the only show in town right now (in terms of NE IPAs), and will be in serious trouble once 1-2 similar breweries with better QC inevitably pop up. I've personally been burned by them too many times, I would never drive 90 minutes to go there.

Yea thats true, I would consider trading for it but I'm not gonna do a 3 hour round trip now when Tired Hands and RAR are similar distances and Manor Hill much closer.

I love Aslin but agree on they have some QC issues. I had to dump some entire bottles of DDH Neutrino because of the hop particulate burning while you drank it.

That said some of their beers have been amazing...

The sediment in Neutrino really is ridiculous, if you don't pour very carefully and leave the last few ounces in the can you end up with a mouthful of gritty hops. It shouldn't have been sold like that, especially if the same thing happened with the bottles.

It would have been a perfectly good beer if they didn't go overboard on the dry hop.

Check the Aslin thread but I'm pretty sure they're offering to buy back the recent DDH Neutrino cans.

Generally tho I agree there are some QC issues and at $5+ a can I'm struggling to justify it. The public tho wants it. I generally only keep 1-2 for me and trade the rest.

Haven't tried Aslin but it sounds like you guys need to shake the crap out of the can before pouring. Been doing that with all my NE style hazy unfiltered IPAs. Haven't one "explode" upon opening, even when opening immediately after vigorous shaking for 30 seconds.

I feel like that's an overly harsh assessment. Sure, there are QC issues they need to work through, but they're also still very new to this new model, and have shown to be very responsive to feedback and improving their methods. They started canning after the first bottle release, and have refined their methods with nearly every release (largely in part to a lot of the comments on these forums).

Say what you want about Aslin, sure they've got room for improvement, but they're easily the best around for what they do. I've had the Veil, I've had Alchemist, Tree House, etc etc, and Aslin is right up there. I would say flat out better than some of those guys, but that all comes down to personal taste/preference.

this isn't some yeast that has fallen out of suspension. this is thick, green hop sludge that should have stayed at the bottom of the fermenter. mixing it in with the rest of the beer would just make the whole can undrinkable instead of the last 3-4 oz

I believe you need to email them a complaint about the cans and they will offer a refund, they did not publically announce a buyback/refund for DDH Neutrino. Considering they KNEW something was wrong with the cans, they should have sold at a discounted price, not sold them at all or offered unsolicited refunds/exchanges.

Wait. I recall that Aslin was moving.

    Did they move to Maryland?

They just posted on a Facebook comment yesterday "No updates at the moment on relocation." Hopefully the Maryland side of DC or even further into Maryland would be prime for me lol.

There is no way they go into MD. Somewhere in Loudoun County would be my guess, as it's the most business friendly county in the DC metro area for breweries.

Also, the Aslin thread is here > https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/aslin-beer-co-releases.427963/page-13

Want a NE IPA in central MD?....Attaboy (new brewery in Frederick opened this week), has a pretty well made Galaxy NE IPA (5.7%) that was quite tasty. Rest of beers were other styles, but looking at the patrons yesterday, most at the bar seemed to be ordering their NE IPA, so I'd guess the owners/brewmasters are taking note as to what is selling well.

I've noticed a lot of Annapolis folks in here, and I'll be heading down to your fine city next Thursday and Friday.

Will be in search of any IPA/DIPA that I cannot get in the Philly region - Union Craft (Duckpin) RAR, Manor Hill, etc. etc. What would be my best bet in or around the city to acquire such treasures? And what bars in the city are must visits? We are staying at the Loews if that helps. TIA.
