Morning NBSers! Well, if you are familiar with The Lost Weekend you will understand (sorta) my describing the last two weeks as The Lost Fortnight. Two bachelor parties with beer geeks, a big tasting and five days of partying round the clock at LockN in Va. left me in a state of what I feared to be PHS (Permanent Hangover Syndrome). I cringe thinking of the amount of beer and party favors consumed and enjoyed.

Not to worry, though, Damon's wedding was last night and I redeemed myself by not drinking anything and offering to DD. So I am ready willing and able to join the party today. Better still I have two new beers given me by my friend Ken when I dropped him off at 2:30 from one of our locals named Equilibrium. Can't wait to crack and glug (TM) them both and share results with y'all.

And a quick shout out to @Squire123 whose review of Centennial not only perfectly described my memory of it, but made me feel like rushing out to pick some up. Nicely done, sir.

    See ya inna bit!

Super fast foamy head over this slightly hazy orange beer. For a fast foamer, it leaves a rather full lacing. Nose pops floral and sweet mango mostly, backed by crackery things as well. A touch of tart introduces a peppery, dandelion taste immediately with a decent bitterness lingering around in this pretty thin almost watery beer. Aftertaste is almost non-existent, save for a little brothy bitterness.

I'm enjoying a quiet and peaceful brew day off the garage this morning, counting my blessings and thinking of everyone in TX/LA, hoping that they can enjoy a quiet peaceful moment soon.
OK, apologies for the heavy start. I'm living dangerously by breaking my rule and opening a beer before the boil for my homebrew is finished - a 15% one at that!

Love the look of this beer: a beautiful crystal-clear amber color. A vigorous pour produced a two-finger light tan head that quickly retreated, leaving wispy laces. Floral honey, restrained blueberries, and cherries on the nose. Not much malt, just the honey sweetness which was nicely balanced. The taste followed the nose closely: great honey flavor without too much distracting sweetness. The berries and floral notes played a supporting role along with a hint of orange. A faint bready malt balanced it out. This is a big beer but the ABV was reasonably well-hidden. Way too easy to drink. Somewhere between medium to full bodied with a nice finish: clean but not too dry. This is an outstanding beer!

I'm taking my brew partner's advice and re-capping the rest of this one while I watch her sample the spent grain from my Bucktoberfest. Cheers, BAs!

Poured from the growler shortly after tapped from the beer company into a nonic pint glass.

Brassy orange and wonderfuly clear body color. A real nice fluffed head of two fingers, bright white and shiny. Fine amounts of carbonation rising as well.

Aroma is a chewy malt like aromas, and soft dough. Good fruity ester coming of this as well, with a matching bready flavor on the nose it seems too. Good amount of density and an almost fruit strawberry like quality.

Good solid quenching palate. Dense but light bodied simply supportive mouthfeel with less than expected chewy mouthfeel. Faint touches of bread and honey in the mid palate, with that interesting strawberry like finish. A little bit of twingy bitterness strangely, almost metallic but not quite but luckily very small.

    Simple solid tasty kolsch.

A-An amber yellowness with a little head and no lacing.
S-A slight hint of lemon and orange zest.
T-Light with a hint of lemon and orange, the Brett yeast gives it a nice character.
M-Light, refreshing, a nice sourness, and lightly carbonated, the combination gives the beer a good balance.
O-A well made beer with a pleasant complexity.

Good afternoon, NBS crew! Excited to try several breweries for the first time today, starting with this one from Triple Crossing, out of the land of @vabeerguy .

Triple Crossing - Ivory Tower DIPA
    Canned 8/10/17 (24 days ago)
    rDev: 3.94 (-1.5%)

L - Vibrant orange body with a minimal head that is gone in a flash.

S - Orange, grapefruit. A milder nose than I'm used to with this style.

T - follows the nose. Huge citrus taste on the front leads to a strong bitter finish.

F - medium. Higher than normal carbonation.

O - Pretty standard stuff here. The lighter body and bitter finish threw me off, but it's an enjoyable brew nonetheless.

My first NBS entry for the day is this fruited American Wild Ale by Zero Gravity Brewing.

Zero Gravity Craft Brewery / American Flatbread
    Fruit / Vegetable Beer / 4.40% ABV

    3.79/5 rDev -3.8% | Avg: 3.94
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

L- The beer pours a pinkish orange with a quickly receding one finger off white head.
S- The nose is ripe strawberries up front tapering off to an acidic lacto sourness.
T- Initially on the palate I get that strong Lacto sourness evident in the nose. Thankfully when that recedes I'm left with a pleasing strawberry aftertaste. The strawberry is of a the less ripened variety than what appears in the nose. Thsi is a real puckerer and is not for the faint of tastebud.
F- Mouthfeel is typical for a wild ale. It's thin do to the acidity and the carbonation is high. This is not something your going to be knocking back a lot of in one sitting.
O- The nose is by far the best part of the beer. Otherwise its mostly a big sour bomb which limits it drinkability. If your not big in to sours I'd try something else first.

Happy New Imported/Foreign Beer Sunday (Week 654)!

What with today being the occasion of New Beer Sunday (Week 654), I have decided to go with an homage to the now-defunct Lauzus Hotel & Bar here in Lancaster, PA.

    https://www.facebook.com/LauzusHotel

I was vaguely aware of their eclectic selection of imported & foreign beers growing up, but they were prohibitively expensive for us underage beer drinkers. It wasn't until after my first overseas deployment in the Navy & my exposure to Chimay that I got hip to going in there while home on leave or weekends. My Sunday will see me trying various imports from around the world until I have to leave for my 2nd shift gig.

First up, one from my local, in-person trader, tone77:

I am following that up with a recent arrival at The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS), where I am a member of the vaunted FGBS Drinking Team:

Oooh, I loves me some Japan! JaCAN, where nearly everything is available from a vending machine. I still CANnot read Kanji, but I speak a smattering, like so many languages. My mother inquired as to how many I speak & I offhandedly replied "30", but that is probably pretty accurate. Well, here is my next & last before shoving off:

    Trillium DDH Sleeper Street IPA

Pours a cloudy, banana-yellow color with orange and gray hues. Three fingers of airy, golden head that's fairly quick to dissipate and leaves modest, spotty lacing.

Peppermint and distant tropical fruit clash in the nose.

Cantaloupe and papaya show up front in the taste. A peppery bite lingers on the tongue in the aftertaste, as does a muted fruit and herb combo.

Heavy bodied and fairy creamy, with a relatively still feel.

Sleeper is one that I didn't love right out of the gate, but that grew on me over a number of cans. I suspect this may be in the same camp. 8/28/17 canned on date.

    Enjoy your Sunday, everyone.

A couple of years ago (May 2015), I was heading from Mankato to Cedar Rapids on business. On a whim, I stopped at TG in Decorah (about an hour out of the way) to see what they had available - I'd heard through my beer store buddy in Mankato that they'd have Lightspeed bombers (an excellent APA they brewed occasionally) available.

They did, so I grabbed a couple of cases of bombers.

They also had Scorpius Morchella and Mornin' Delight on tap. I was able to purchase a mini growler of the Scorpius, but Mornin' Delight was "onsite" only. A phenomenal beer, IMHO.

That was a pretty great beer nerd day.

Next up is this Scuttlebutt Brewing Hoptopia DIPA.

Hazy burnt orange with a decent enough foamy head, spotty lacing rounds out the visual. Nose is floral, a little spicy and crackery. Oddly enough, this one is nearly identical to the last beer I had. Taste too. Dandelion and candy mango, maybe something more grapefruit like in this, plus more of a bitter alcohol taste in the finish

I've been trying to pick up some Florida beers as I see them to bomb my target with. I think this box will be the biggest I've ever shipped!

So I think this one's definitely gonna make it into the box.
The Florida Weisse style is a real tasty treat and Tampa Bay Brewing Company is doing a great job! The Last Days Of Summer was tasty and had mango and peaches.
This has blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, as if the body doesn't show it!

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a Snorkel glass. Canned on 06/16/17

Appearance: A dark pink to rose colored body with a foamy white head that dissipates to a fine row of bubbles along the glass.

Aroma: Definitely tart to sour-ish with those berries coming through.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Tart up front with plenty of berry sweetness coming through at the end. This is such a refreshing beer it's hard not to chug this one down. Light mouthfeel with a delicious lingering berry juice and tartness.

Overall: This one is going to be just like The Last Days Of Summer for me...gonna be hard not to pick up a 4 pack every time I see it on the shelves! Refreshing, delicious and easy to drink! Sour and tart, but not mouth puckering to the point of undrinkability (is that a word?)

    Cheers!

I did serious review and it didn't work very well, this is my feeling. Will never understand why people love this style, this one is musty, with loads of life, sage, like, ginger, but tastes more like champagne. Attractive enough, plenty of lace, and overall just a well made beer. Still my first and last one of these and I am sorry my phone acted up, I wanted to review this properly but it timed out during my edit and the beer is just not good enough to waste any more time on. Look 4.25, Smell 3.5, Taste 3.5, Mouthfeel 4, and overall 3.75. Sorry again:rage:

The Veil - Weekend at Broznies
    DIPA with Pineapple
    Canned 8/21/17 (13 days ago)
    Rating: 3.81 (-10.2% rDev)

L - Murky yellow body with a 1-finger offwhite head that recedes fully in about a minute.

S - fruit and cheese plate. A little bit of pineapple, but the cheese smell predominates.

T - cheesy hops. Having a hard time picking up the pineapple.

    F - medium-full. Average carbonation.

O - I'm not sure which hops create that cheesy smell/taste, but this beer has them in spades. Definitely not my favorite from The Veil. I'd much rather a Master Shredder or Crucial Taunt.

Good afternoon NBS! Have a rack of spareribs on an indirect grill going so time to sit back with a beer and enjoy the smell of apple wood smoke.

This week it's Samuel Adams Octoberfest. It's Labor Day weekend, unofficial end of summer, with some cooler weather having arrived and college football dominating the tv this weekend, so this seemed about right.

Pours a caramel brown color with minimal head that faded away rapidly. Smells of a little wood and caramel. Taste is dry with notes of caramel and brown sugar with a little bit of crusty bread. Light to medium body. Soft sweet flavor lingers afterwards. Love the feel, easy to drink, taste and smell are pretty mild so won't wow you but could certainly knock back a few at a tailgate or game. It's about an average example for the style, but I would think pretty perfect for most fall activities.
