Boston for me because I have a friend who lives on Martha's Vineyard and I could go and pretend that Im rich for a weekend.
The last time I was there I had some very good craft beer.

Boston one year, Denver the next.

If not an option, I'd go with Denver. It's just a gut feeling, but I am inclined to think you'd be exposed to a wider variety range of beer styles and quality, whatever you're tastes are (but I've been wrong before -- just ask my wife!)...

You really can't go wrong with either. I would prefer Denver, but just be aware that you're going to burn a lot of gas and time getting to all of the breweries.

Restricting my comments to the cities themselves and having spent time in both I vote for Denver. Boston is one of our Nation's truly unique historic cities and a great place to visit but there is little fly fishing there and no mountains at all.

The question of a car continues to come up. We will definitely have a rental car.

Tough choice, but I choose Boston for the reason I get Portland about 90 minutes away. Portland is way underrated. And if your up to it, the road trip possibilities are endless.

My vote is Boston. One of the best vacations (not just beercations) we have taken. Between Portland, Boston, Salem, Martha's Vineyard, etc... Just awesome! Great variety as well... with places like Notch and Jacks Abby to Trillium and Allagash... So good!

I've never been to either; I live on the East Coast, and as much as I love NE IPA, in your situation I have to go with Denver. I mean, I want to move to Colorado. The mountains are just gorgeous and there are countless breweries. I want to go to Colorado myself, so I picked Denver.

(Caveat: I live in Boston, so I may be biased)

I think it depends on 2 things: what (if anything) you are looking to do outside of buy/drink beer and your willingness to travel beyond Denver/Boston (or let's say the greater Denver/Boston areas for sake of argument). If you're into hiking/biking/outdoors then I think Denver has a bit more to offer and Boston would require you to drive around the New England region a bit.

With Boston as your "home base" you could do a great beer tour of Boston > Portland > VT > Boston spending a night or two in each location. I wouldn't be concerned about only being able to get NEIPAs if you did something like that. While most of the best-known breweries (Trillium, Tree House, Alchemist) have a lot of NEIPAs they all make other stuff as well. Portland is a phenomenal beer city and both Allagash and Oxbow are making some of the best funky/sour stuff in the country. And Hill Farmstead's reputation should speak for itself.

All that being said, I don't think you're going wrong either way.

When they opened a few years back, Trillium was only the 3rd brewery in Boston. A few others have opened since then but between MA's arcane liquor laws and the tiny footprint/lack of space in Boston proper there will never be anywhere near the 70 in Denver.

Well since you're in Texas I'd go with Denver. Awesome city. Really great restaurants, bars and breweries. You can't not have a good time in Denver. That being said though, if you ever find yourself in the Northeast, Boston is a must visit. Especially if you dig American history.

If we're talking about car or bicycle, I absolutely agree. Denver is much easier to get around. The streets and roads of Boston are downright awful and it takes a while to really get used to. It should be said though that Boston is consistently ranked within the top 5 most walkable cities in America. The MBTA (though manged poorly) does a pretty good job of moving people around so if you're a walker, Boston really isn't a difficult city to traverse.

I live in the Boston area and want to visit Denver, so I said Denver. I don't think that there's a wrong answer here. Flip a coin.

I was vaguely referring to the fact that there are dozens of breweries (and cideries, distilleries, wineries, and beer bars) within walking distance of each other in the LoDo/RiNo/Five Points area of Denver alone.

    Exactly.
I see a lot of Boston fans including the caveat "if you don't mind driving".
Why would you recommend a trip to a brewery that requires driving?
