Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

It sounds like darkness should be showing up this week. Any confirmed sightings?

 

Metal Monkey is bottling their BA Asmodeus today for a December release, last years release was spot on for me and I'm one of those weird people that rarely enjoy BA beers.

 

If you rarely enjoy BA beers, do you have anything to compare it to and/or can you describe why you like this one specifically? I think that would be helpful.

 

I should probably be a little more specific with that it's more the whiskey flavor than anything. A lot of the offerings I've had the beer tastes more like bourbon/whiskey than it does beer. This can obviously change year to year but last years release the beer flavors in the release were very present (heavy dark roasty coffee, dark chocolate, some mild vanilla and darker berry flavor sneaks through as well) . The barrel aging on this beer added a nice little bite to the tongue but I didn't ever feel like I was sipping on a cup of whiskey.

I heard Surly Darkness hit shelves. Anybody spot it yet?

 

It doesn't look like there's been any confirmed sightings in past 4 hours...hang tight.

 

No Darkness sightings on Twitter feeds yet. I am seeing the Dragon's Milk Mocha Mint though - that stuff tastes like barrel-aged Thin Mints!

 

Someone on fb said "Binnys Lincoln park had an event yesterday where you can drink and purchase Darkness 17." Perhaps it was just for the event then.

 

That sounds kinda like what they did for Abraxas last year, but that was pretty well-publicized. I feel like I would've heard about the Darkness event as well...but I am a bit less in tune with current beer happenings than I used to be.

Huh. It was last night at LP. Definitely didn't see a ton of publicity for it; had no idea.

I'm stupid, I didn't notice this thread was from 2016.

 

No, that's just an honest mistake. Stupid is walking by a tower of say 5 or 6 cases of 30th back when it hit distro and saying to yourself, "Eh, I'll pick this up next time I stop by." Then the next time you go to your favorite beverage store a few days later said tower is long gone. Classic "D'oh!!!" moment, and all stupid. Fortunately I've garnered a few as extras in trades.

 

I read that tonight and said "Christ, Can't Indiana get anything?". I didn't even check the dates.

Sigh.
