My vote goes to Central Waters Satin Solitude. Why? plenty there but not too much. At 7.5+ Abv you can drink a bunch in one cold winter night without getting sick of it. Maybe it's not a true Imperial but that's ok. it's not overbearing and not over priced. It has just the right flavor/depth/weight for a cold winter night without breaking the bank.

I enjoy Confluence's Milk Man quite a bit. Easy drinker.

While technically a dark ale, Bent Paddle Cold Press Black is my go-to for every day, accessible stouts!

Chocolate milk stout from Dangerous Man and Three Hour Tour from Town Hall definitely have to be at the top for me.

'Foundation' from Badger Hill and 'Irish Coffee' from Lift Bridge are two that I enjoy.

I wouldn't mine trying this one out if I can find it. I do see Millstream in my area once in a while.

I will have to try out a few others that have mentioned if run into them.

Yeah, I bought some late last week. It's quite good. I'm bad at articulating what I do and don't like in particular beers, but I would put that on my short list of "relatively inexpensive stouts that I can get in something other than a bomber and I would happily purchase more than once."

Summit Oatmeal Stout is very drinkable.

Thought it was very good- reminded me of George Humter, they call it a double stout, kind of a hybrid- more body and flavor than a regular stout and not as intense as an imperial. 8% range, I believe. Will buy again!

For me this is a after dinner beer, and no more than one per session. It's well done.
(Bought it at Eden Prairie Liquors, across from Cub Foods.)

Yes That's what I figured too, not something you have more than one of, but I still would like to try it.

Summit is Tap only, It's good but a little on the light duty side for me. George Hunter I have had but don't really remember what is was like. I probably had it at the brewery and/or at a bar on tap. Will have to try it again. Dangerous Man I don't think I have ever had, but that's growler only. Same goes for Town Hall, I have been there but that was 2 or 3 years ago. Badger Hill foundation is now on me try list. One of these days I will have to stay in the twin cities and tap room hop. hit a bunch of them in one day. Only problem with that is the DWI issue. I started this tread for conversation but I'm also looking for some stout's that I may have over looked.

Do they distro Confluence's Milk Man in the Twin Cities?

Reading through the replies I would say Three Hour Tour is far and away the best for me but it is limited and you'll pay for it.

For regular stouts I'd put George Hunter and Foundation at the top.

All of the Dangerous Man stouts are excellent as well.

I don't think I've had Satin Solitude. Sounds like I need to.

Ok that does it. I am throwing the challenge flag out. I am challenging the Twin Cities beer drinkers and anywhere that the distro of CW Satin Solitude and CD George Hunter over laps to do a Head to Head comparison. Hopefully Bottle vs Can, not tap/growlers. I will have to buy some George Hunter in cans myself in the next few weeks to do the head to head.

SS (7.5%) is billed as an Imperial Stout but actually has a little less ABV than GH (8%). It would seem to be a pretty even apples to apples comparison. I'll do it if I can find them both. Don't get CW in my neck of the woods but will look for it next time I'm out of town.

I'll do it, if I can find some GH. They're both great beers, and a side-by-side would be interesting. Not sure about the $$ difference, but I know SS is very reasonable. It's also year-round, whereas GH is seasonal.

'George Hunter' is a winter seasonal, and not yet available at the few stores I checked for inventory.

I was at Bloomington Total Wine on Friday, and a Fair State employee was there pouring samples. I tried the 'Giantsbane' double stout (Game of Thrones character, one of the "Free Folk"). This stout is very well done, and recommended.
Also I asked this employee about more 'Spirit Foul' IPA, and he said it was unlikely more would be made until later in 2018. Take this for what it is worth.
