If you're talking about Oblivion Ring, their "dessert barleywine with coffee," I'm going to lean in here and admit I was unable to finish a 5-ounce pour. It may well be the sweetest beer I have ever tried (and we're talking over 25 years of "ever" here).

That's the one and as someone who has been doing this since 1995, I'm in agreement. And I say this as someone who likes Southern Tier's Creme Brulee stout.

Same goes for their Bourbon Blueberry Coconut Coffee Stout, it just obliterated my palate.

Bourbon Blueberry Coconut Coffee?? Are they trying to set the record for most adjuncts in one stout? That beer just sounds horrible.

You guys ever try Mocha Wednesday from Bruery? Only beer I’ve ever had that I couldn’t finish due to it being too sweet.

Yeah, that just sounds way too "cheffy". Like when a chef takes a solid dish and keeps adding things, finally it's that "one last touch" that leaves ya wondering WTF?

I actually like Mocha Wednesday, this beer was next level thick and sweet. And out of all those adjuncts I could only pick up coffee. For the record, I think their IPAs have been fantastic and I'll be sticking mainly to them.

Heya everybody... The wife and I are going to be in Portland/Tillamook/Manzanita over the next few nights.... Plan on making the usual stops, but I am looking for different info too.

Any can't miss barleywines / BA barleywines I need to check out? Our annual BW tasting is coming up in a couple weeks and there are plenty of hype machine bottles going to be there, but I'd like to rep the PNW pretty hard. I will have a good supply of mini-growlers for draft stuff.

What are the best bottles / growlers+crowlers I need to take back to Boise.

I'd appreciate any and all help... Cheers and thanks, Toby.

If you don't already have Mother of All Storms planned, that's a no-brainer. I like Ex Novo's Nevermore and Sunriver's Motorhead too.

Not sure if it hits Oregon at all, but if you see Skookums Barren Woods, it's a must grab.

NYAH! I made the pilgrimage to Chuck's today for some Block 15 IHS and had no clue about Massive, so I didn't look. Does anyone know if these are still floating around the Seattle area or Eastside? (Slight geographic thread de-rail - sorry!)

Some places around here still have Breakside's Old Lord Chubby Cheeks, don't know if that's still kicking around PDX.

I can verify that PDX does not have it because I somehow slept on this and have been on the lookout for weeks now. That said, Cultivating Mass is kicking around and is damn delicious. It's not a barleywine though.

Hey OR good people Have't been out there in 6 or 7 years. Spending two nights in Portland and two nights in Bend. Only plan right now is to hit up Great Notion. I know there's a ton of great restaurant/bar/brewery options out there, just looking for any hidden gems not listed in @guajolote post. Mainly looking for restaurant options. And great resource by the way, thank you!

Most of the places listed in this article are in the OP, but you may find something to your liking that's not listed. Of those not listed in the OP, I'd recommend Interurban. Great beer list, great cocktails, and really solid food. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure why I haven't added it to the OP. Note to self for next update...

I take the wife out on date night every Friday, which usually entails taking her to some nice restaurant in town. The following list consists of some of my favorite places, but I want to warn you that many of these places will not have an outstanding beer selection (if that matters to you). This is Portland, so everyplace will have something decent available, but they generally aren't going to compare to the places listed in this OP.

Bluehour (really nice "urban setting" restaurant in the Pearl, with great cocktails and a nice wine list. They have a number of beers on tap here as well)

Andina. (not much of beer place, but South American cuisine is very well prepared and quite good)

Higgins (really good food, with a great beer and wine selection. A bit pricey for what's on offer, but consistently good food and service)

Paley's Place (for my money, one of the better restaurants in the city. Located in a refabricated old home, food and service are both fairly high end. Prices aren't cheap, but I think you get what you pay for here. They have a few beer selections, but no one goes here for the beer. Best steak tartare I've ever had.)

Little Bird (sister restaurant to Le Pigeon, but more casual and user friend. Excellent food, with a few beer options. Excellent happy hour pricing. Reservations can be difficult, but you can almost always get a spot in the bar area. Pricing is similar to Paley's Place).

Tasty N Alder (my favorite restaurant in PDX. Problem is, it's a LOT of people's favorite place to dine in PDX. Excellent and creative food, with a good wine list and decent beer selection. Mostly small plates here, so you can try a lot of different things without breaking the bank. No reservations, so either get here at opening bell or expect an hour or two wait to get in)

The places mentioned above, while informal enough, are for the most part what I would call fine dining destination spots. Places that I think are good, but a bit more rustic and relaxed, would include:

Imperial (another Chef Vitaly place - see Paley's place; but much more low key and accessible. They take reservations, and it's never a bad idea to make one, but you can often just walk in without a reservation. Beer selection is fairly decent, but this place is just down the street from Bailey's if you want a better than just decent beer selection)

Grassa (interconnected with Lardo West and Beer O'clock, it's hard to go wrong at this place. Italian style cuisine is well made and affordable, and proximity to beer O'clock means there's a first rate beer selection to go with it. The wine selection sucks, but you can bring your own if you want - $15 corkage. My wife hates this place because there's no table service to speak of, and for her that's an absolute necessity on date night).

Could recommend other spots, but these are some of our favorites and should be a sufficient selection to choose from for the two nights you'll be here.

    Have fun.
